Solution for UD vs. DelState in Football

This is an article that I found through Yahoo! I feel this maybe what has to happen for DelState and UD to meet on the gridiron. I guess, it is on you, Governor Minner!

To develop a history you have to start somewhere? Am I correct? I do think that UD would blow out DelState but the interest is there and it would count more with the selection committee than a blowout against Div. 2 West Chester.

we only play west chester cause its a bigger tradition than playin del ST wev played them for like the past 10years and they keep scedualin it becuz its like a super bowl to them its the biggest game they will ever play in

Yeah, to West Chester it is big! Where does it benefit UofD? Are you going to tell me that a win against Div 2 West Chester holds more weight with the Selection Committee than a win over Div. 1-AA DelState? I believe that West Chester would beat DelState more often than they would lose to them. However, they are Div. 2 no matter how you put it! As far as the tradition, you have to play to develop a rivalry! As far as interest, you know that DelState vs. UD would bring out more people within the state. It would create that whole upstate vs. downstate thing, and I am happy to say I am from Upstate! I just think that interest for UD vs. State would be bigger than West Chester and it would count more with the Selection Committee. DelState should be the ones playing Chicken (no pun intended).

I agree with you on the selection aspect of it. And yes I would rather have another 1AA or D1 as opposed to West Chester. I don't think you can say upstate vs. downstate as far as fan base. I live 10 minutes from Delstate and have been a season ticket holder at UD for years & know of many more as well. Geographically, yes obviously. My solution would be for State to make the playoffs! The committee tends to pair up teams with regional ties in the first round as opposed to rankings. That would def. warm the coals if you know what I mean.

Yeah, if DelState can ever take that conference away from Hampton. Hampton has owned that conference every since they have joined. DelState knocked them off last year but were too inconsistent during the season.

You guys have to look at the dollars to see why it will never happen.

As you said it is a big game for west chester and they get a good paid attendance from alot of PA people who do not normally buy tickets

What would UD gain by playing Del State. Del State has a horrible attendance problem. UD already has 90% of the DE football fans locked up. You wouldn;t gain many new paying fans, so why do it from their stand point?

You are right about it not being worthwhile for U of D, but wrong about the 90% of fans being "locked up"...maybe it is more like 30% today. Many Delawareans have NO love for the U of D football program.

I know what you are saying. What I meant was 90% of the people who would actually go to a game, not 90% of all the people in Delaware.
