ST. E'S VS SMYRNA

Not well enough. Wouldn't have mattered if he was 100%. St E got absolutely hammered by Smyrna. Matthews had 4 or 5 threes. Worthy maybe a double double points and assists. Bigs dominated inside points and boards.

Smyrna much improved from last I saw...

St E needs to seriously regroup after this loss.

That's another big win for Smyrna w/ 2 more big games vs Cape & Salesianum next week. How did Smyrna's freshman Garnett play tonight?

He played well. He benefitted from some nice drive and dish particularly from Worthy. He also hit a couple from outside. He looks like a nice player.

@BriggsBeall against the top teer teams they've gotten blown away Sanford, Mount, Smyrna. I think it's It's simple They're just not that good...

its always been this way,, no coaching just give the ball to their player and expect him to do it all.. ST E's Offense was give Patton the ball top of the key and he drives scores or gets fouled ... That was it

Raven is right, StE biggest problem is coaching. They definitely do no lack talent they lack structure, they have had some great talent role through that gym yet somehow Rago has never made it to a state championship game.

I just read the News Journal article on this game & Smyrna was up 65-36 at one point...impressive. Sounds like Javier Worthy's 19 pts & 9 rebs, sophomore Caleb Matthews' 17 pts including 5 3s, freshman Jaymeir Garnett's 12 pts & 14 rebs led a very balanced attack as has been the case all year for Smyrna. With only 3 losses all year...twice to Dover (one of which came last week at the buzzer) & a 1-point loss to Cape this team is on a mission & I could see them making a Final 4 run. I'm starting to wonder if Worthy has played his way on to a possible spot on 1st Team All State...I think Dixon, Burnett & Allen are all locks while you then have Cale, Money & Worthy. In the past it seems like a team's record/success has been taken into account so I wonder how that would factor in. Even if so William Penn may argue that they deserve someone on 1st Team.

J12,

When was the last time 2 players from south of the bridge made 1st team all-state in the same year?

I want to say around 2012 Smyrna's Gibbs & Polytech's Laster were both 1st Team off of memory...I'm sure there are some archives somewhere out there though. I think Laster was also a Smyrna kid through middle school too so that would have made for a nice 1-2 punch throughout high school.

Strange season this year. I've seen Dover twice and they looked bad both times. At "Slam" and last week against Smyrna - even though they won the Smyrna game. Smyrna did not look good that day either. Maybe they both played so hard that they made each other look bad. Neither looked like title contenders, but Smyrna obviously has something to have beaten WP at Penn and having hammered Concord and St. E. Allen did not play well in either of the Dover games I saw. On the other hand, I saw St. E. beat St. Raymond's and they looked great! Money was great in that game too. What is going on?? I think Stan and Mikey make Sanford the team to beat when it is all said and done.

If Sanford does get Jyaire Davis back, they'd be super hard to beat, but not totally unbeatable. I have to agree with everyone else saying St. E is a disappointment. I didn't think losing Curry would affect them THAT much.

Stan gives Sanford an edge against everybody. But I still don't see them as a sure thing. I haven't seen Davis so not sure about his impact.

What struck me about Sanford is their lack of size. Smyrna bigs are tall and solid and their guards know how to get them the ball. Walsh is a decent player and has improved, but I don't see him handling Smyrna inside game. Of the top teams I think Smyrna would be a tough match up for Sanford.

I am 6'1 and have dunked.. its no big deal... if you can palm the ball and jump high enough you can dunk..woo hoo,,shooting, passing and dribbling well is harder than dunking..

The guy he dunked on had about 4 or 5 inches on him. It wasn't just him and the rim, he had a defender to worry about too, great dunk.

whatever... just not impressed with dunks anymore..JMHO don't get me wrong when I was a teen I loved the dunk ..hell I was the biggest Dr J fan on the planet..but nowadays 8th graders dunk its not a special skill.. I feel the same about sportscenter showing baseball guys diving to catch a ball.. Hell I see 9 year olds making those same plays.. So I came to realize the technical and mental aspects of sports is more important and harder than dunking or diving to catch a ball ..

HS and NCAA need to go to the NBA distance. The 12 foot pull up jumper or fade away is a lost art lol

That is true, but Smyrna does play some good solid basketball. they work the ball and look for each other.
