I think there have been games that starters were in longer that I would have let them but there have been more games where starters didn't play in 4th quarter except in extra points or kicking formations. I think you statement that the big numbers for Smyrna kids is because of leaving them in long time is incorrect. I'm quite sure I have seen as many of their games as anyone else and a lot more that most. For the Smyrna offense, 50 points is a minimum threshold. The standards are different. Back in the days of 20 something to teen something game scores, 30 points seems like a lot and time to take foot off the gas if the margin was a couple of touchdowns. The game has changed and of course some coaches are going to be upset. But the coaches in Smyrna preach enthusiasm, high motor, execution, and getting after it. They expect to score 50 every game. That is their new normal. Like it or not, there really isn't a run up the score mentality there. It just business as usual and not a big deal. That's what the coaches want the kids to believe in. BTW, "well in hand" is a tricky business...it can easily turn into "out of hand".
