On the outside looking in, what message are you sending? I haven't formed an opinion yet, I'm hopeful the board will help me.

"Perhaps sensing they needed even more points after Sallies won this regular-season meeting 76-56 last year, the Eagles went for another one. They called two timeouts to stop the clock in the final 2:08 of the half, then got the ball back and had Henderson throw deep to Roberts for a 31-yard TD and a 52-6 lead with 10 seconds left before halftime." TNJ/BM

Just an observation...Ouch!

Good coaching. It's before the half. Last year when Sallies was up late in the game , they kept the best guys on the field. After halftime excess would be poor sportsmanship but until then keep foot on pedal. A certain mentality is being fostered in the kids. Executing the game plan and proper play execution is stressed. I don't think you can be overly concerned with hurting people's feelings. Also, seeding at end of season may come down to margin of victory over common opponents. Several factors to weigh.

I am out of town and haven't looked at delawareonline.com yet. Based on my understanding of the rules did the second half start with a running clock?

Bummy-I could be wrong, but this was probably the worse loss in the BDN Era. Maybe the history of the school. Smyrna showed a ton of class by calling off the dogs......it could have been 80/90- poss 100 points and that's being dead serious. The only thing that slowed the Eagles down was the Running Clock and lack of playtime for the starters.....

.....Sals band left at halftime-

Assuming that what is on the board is correct the Sals 34 point loss is their 2nd biggest point differential loss in the BDN era. The biggest loss was a 35-0 loss to Middletown in 2012. That was Wades 11 th grade year. The Slowskys played without Troy Reeder who was sidelined with a foot injury.

Remember. That was a shutout.....and MDT shut them out again 27-0 in the title game and Troy Reeder played. That MDT team was the best DE HS FB team I have ever seen. The D was impenetrable.

The next year the Slowskys got revenge.

In summary..the running clock on the Slowskys...Interboro, Malvern, Middletown, now Smyrna.

We just have to wait unti 12/3.

Jawnsky-Smyrna is full throttle but in comparison to other HS teams that I have seen, Smyrna has shown a lot of class...thank you for pointing that out. Growing up in Smyrna, we haven't seen the same class from some of the same opponents who are now on the other end...complaining. Last year, Nolan's early exits totaled 13qtrs(2 due to injury at WP). This year, he's only been on the field 5qtrs and a couple running clock series in 3 games...and that's a compliment to our coaching, not a criticism. Knight didn't start and saw very little action at Delcastle, and until last night, Brown and Knight have not always been on the field together. The onside kicks, the 2pt conversions, going for 4th and longs have become our 'Brand' and the players are all in. It seems like some want our 2's to come in, and drop the spread for the wing T. That, in my opinion, is not fair to these kids or coaches who have established the very 'Brand' that's gotten them to this point.

DENative- you are welcome!
Salesianum fans got a taste of their own medicine last night, I have watched them steamroll teams and then posters come on to this forum and brag about "running clocks"

I don't think it's poor sportsmanship to let your best players play their best in a big game. My teams have been on both sides over the years, and honestly if you don't want the crap beaten out of you GET BETTER. If you get destroyed use it as motivation to improve and return the favor down the road. That said, I like to see the team that's up put in their backups so they get a chance to develop and get some reward for their work in practice, and prevent needless injuries of a starter. Good for Smyrna on this one, no sympathy here for the Sals.

You had the St Marks, Newark, and Penn back in the day. Recently Middletown, penn and now symrna. Look who is always there to provide a measuring stick. Yup looks like the only take two state titles this fall, soccer and cc. Sucks!

...and just to be clear, my post was not directed to Sallies. Heard no complaining from the Sals faithful that I spoke to after the game.

@Mr H
they were in shock..
that's why you didn't hear anything...
I'm sure they are crying today!!

Regarding the two point conversions, a fifty percent success rate is equivalent to a 100 percent success rate if your kicking. There are few automatics in the high school kicking game. I see nothing wrong with the score before halftime. After the half, call off the dogs and let the clock take care of the rest. Just my opinion and I could be wrong.

My very first thought last

Saturday..............Media Geeks.
Sunday.................New Week lots of FB left.

And based on Smyrna's posted scorelines...they are 19/21 on 2pt conversions. Thats another 38 points scored just on 2pt'ers. Yikes!
well if you assume they can kick the 1pt its an extra 17pts .. they wont have the same success rate vs the better teams though.. IMHO

you can shoot for 50% but you really dont want the game to come down to having to convert a 2pter to win or lose
