what do you guys think is the cause of the sudden "amp up" of the football being played in the state?

Seems like in the last 4-5 years with the rise of play of First Newark, then Middletown, then Penn, and Now Symrna, Delaware is moving in the positive direction.

Not only are there more good teams, but it also seems like the the quality of individual players are rising with solid high level D1 talent is starting to sprout at what seems like a rate that I haven't seen until recently with What symrna has, the concord LB, his Brother, kids at Caravel, Penn etc...

Also let me add that even the offensive schemes being ran are finally catching up to other states with the spread offenses.

Seemed like a few years ago when it was just Pencader Charter who were the only ones to really spread the ball around, then it was Newark, red lion, and Middletown, and more schools are starting to slowly get to it

I think one of the biggest reasons that Delaware football players are getting college opportunities is the work of Damon Daniels and Bo Hunter with Team Delaware 7v7. Also the training work those guys do with young players. The list of players trained by those two is long, and includes every player named in this thread. You want to see the best "skill" players in the state all in one place? Go watch the Team Delaware tryouts in Spring.

Actually football as a whole is down in delaware. There is some bad football that is making good teams like Smyrna, middletown, penn teams look very good. Those teams are good, but I have to be honest, middletown was undefeated or whatever before the chip, and I watch middletown them in a few games and not being mean, but as good as they were it was the worst middeltown team i have seen on quite awhile. I would think deep down their coach would probably say the same. Hopefully as a whole it improves.

So are you saying that there is only one good football team in Delaware? And please don't start the WB this because the top 4 D1 teams would dismantle them with a running clock.

Football as a whole is down . Lots of unwatchable teams around the state. The top teams are good. Middletown had a very good team . Their defense is outstanding and maybe as good as they've ever had. Smyrna O is just that good.

I hate the conference alignments. It brings out uncompetitive football . The old dogs in Delaware don't like change so don't expect it to get any better.

I see no significant difference, a few good teams and players.

Typical year, Delaware HSFB produces a team CalPreps ranked #200-450, another #500-1000, and perhaps two teams in top #1600. #1600 is about top 10% of HS teams.

Not a bad distribution for a very small state (~46 schools). But, MD has more like 220, NJ 500+, TX has more 6A teams with 100+ kids than DE has schools.

Delaware has too many teams only drawing ~35 kids for the team. There are a few good teams, but DE is limited by population density. Better schools will tend to draw better talent.

One guy's opinion.

I don't know about that, I will say that I am a Red Lion/ECA guy and also am from North jersey, and foot all around at even the "good schools" were unwatchable just a few years ago.

I really want to say it started with Dover and Newark, and Taylor Renalds&Co that I saw some pretty good football, watchable football, not just 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

Now I see Teams Like Middle town, WP, Smyrna and can truly say that they are playing some really fun to watch football

Agreed, Delaware has some fun football to watch, and some well coached teams.

Well that was an unbelievable taylor reynolds led newark team beating some really good legit teams, with the occasional stinker on the schedule, so that example is an obvious good one as far as good football. They were fun to watch, and arguable the best HS offense ever, and again I say arguably. But what I am saying is there are much more stinkers, and until the overall competition improves to give you a week to week battle, it just isnt the same or as much fun to even talk about. I know a lot of current parents would disagree and argue that there sons (or daughters team) are the best ever DE HS team, its just not so. When you get excited for only 1, 2, or 3 games out of an entire seasons schedule is unfortunate. Sad part, likely never to change much. In a small state like delaware demographics plays such a huge role in success. The building boom will continue to beneifit teams (ie. smyrna, etc.) and eventually move further south (milford, etc.). That is natural progession. But building traditions or legit dynasties like WP, Newark, Middletown, Sallies of teh past will be hard if not impossible to do moving forward. Just my opinion
