When nobody could answer my direct question about when the Salies MLK contract was signed, I became curious. I was able to find out one thing, the contract was signed in February of this year. From what I can tell, these schools were not consolidated until July 1st of this year. If this is true, this will go down as just another instance of the DIAA giving into the private schools. If this is true, it is sad that the rules only apply to one class of people. I don't know the truth, I just know enough to know that the truth isn't being shared. There are an awful lot of people on this board, that come forward with known information all the time. Where are you now?

Ikey, I think you are off base on this one. MLK and Germantown merged before the 13-14 school year.
There was even a TV show run on ESPN that covered the merged school's 2013 FB season.
The show was called something like "We could be Kings."

The documentary went through a game by game chronology of the season,
One of the critical components of the documentary was the combining of 2 schools whose rivalry had entailed
some violence.

If the contract was signed when MLK was a standalone school it would have had to be signed
in the the 2012-2013 school year when MLK and Germantown were separate schools.

Is your premise that DIAA intentionally is giving the Big S D1 points for playing a D2 school?

Maybe DIAA had old info on MLK before their 2013-2014 merger with Germantown.

I'm Not saying that there is something sketchy or not, BUT if the DIAA did bend the rules, I believe it would have to do with income and politics. Between the two teams fighting for the 6th seed? Who would brings in more revenue, no matter who they played.....? Easy answer.

Like I said though, I'm not saying that they bent the rules or not. Even though I voted no on the poll, sallies lost to two teams in the tourney, and beat two teams in the tourney, simply put, they may belong more than the first team out.

I'm not sure of the story here and I'm certainly not a Sallies follower, but here is the deal. It doesn't matter when the contract was signed, what matters is what MLK's enrollment number was in September of 2012, because that is the number that every other team in the State is working from. That was also when the current two year period that everyone is working off of now was established. We are currently in the second year of that two year period. Just this past September 30, 2014, DIAA established the enrollment numbers for the next two seasons, so even if someone's numbers go up or down next year, that team would remain in the same division based on the numbers already established. So therefore, in order to be fair, Sallies should have gotten credit for whatever MLK's number was in September of 2012. If that is the case, everything is kosher. If that's not the case, then there is a legitimate reason to cry foul here.

Once again the consolidation took place before the 2013 school year. I think
You are basing your concerns on an erroneous premise.

Ches,

Like I said, I had no idea what the actual answer was, I was stunned that nobody could give the answer. I would never say that the DIAA would give preferential treatment to a private school, over that of a public. Unless it was three years ago when STM asked to remain in D-1, while a public school that asked for the same consideration was told "Rules are rules" But I guess that doesn't count.

I'll lend this to the discussion. I found a website that lists their 2013-2014 enrollment as 1,109. This would
make them a division I school.

However, I must also add this. I called Bill Legge (chairman of the football tourney committee) 5 weeks ago and asked him if he had all of the out of state enrollments, specifically MLK. Very nice man to talk to by the way. He said that he had talked to Mike Hart(Salesianum AD) and Mike told him that MLK was in fact a division 2 school. Again that info was provided to Bill by Salesianum. I guess things had changed. No arguments here, I think the outcome was the correct one.

Specifically it matters when the contract is signed. That is clearly stated in the DIAA tournament manual.

No, I was commenting about when STM was allowed to stay up in D-1. I believe it was either Concord or HVT that asked to remain in D-1, but were denied. While STM was allowed,

ikey..I am with you on this for 2 main reasons:
1-why cant the question/answer be officially answered and put this to rest.
2-integrity of the game/selections and public perception

There is no reason whatsoever that Kevin cannot explain why MLK was considered D-1.

@skip...1109 enrollment for MLK is correct for 09/13....attendance for 09/12...755...09/11 ...879.......to clarify the 2 schools didn't "merge" because Philadelphia has open enrollment and in Philly you can attend any high school as long as you meet their criteria and there is a seat.......when Germantown high closed most of the kids who were attending there as their feeder school would have been assigned to king but they didn't have to attend.............king's attendance actually went down the Sept after "g town" closed..........as far as the 2year contract, how does that matter when it was a 1 year deal......... also why did king self report to piaa attendance of 852 in October 2013 ???....I know I'm all over the place but I also want to add that it is typical for Philly public high schools to lose students who are on the rolls in Sept but never showed up because they moved / transfered or dropped out...fear of violence after g town closed might explain why king lost around 250 students....that or they don't count the 32% of special ed students they have when they do the numbers for piaa sports ??????

I can't buy the revenue theory.....If revenue is the motivator they would have never scheduled all three Henlopen teams at the same day and time.

Ikey..got it. Kevin should just issue a statement clarifying the situation. Of course, it could further confuse the issue but it wouldn't
look like some deep secret.

hs...it might be good to look for some other reason other than power, influence and social class.

3 weeks ago. There were 2 certainties for me....the Big S would not be in the FB tourney and that Maryland would never have a Republican governor.
What do I know.

Looks to me like that is exactly what you're saying.

Every year, every season, we find some question or controversy with Salesianum in the cross-hairs. It really does get old. This year's team made the playoffs, barely, by doing what every poster on this site said they had to do - win out and beat MT. They did, first round this week, and we'll see how far the momentum from the win will carry them.

Ches- we agree and I have been saying all year Salesianum will make it in (even at 6-4 they are worthy but that's not the issue or topic of discussion)

Stick and the other poster?.....nobody complaining (maybe Cape) but its not unreasonable to ask for the info. And it is certainly fair to ask the DIAA to clarify this issue.

...yes-Salesianum gets questioned on almost everything but Sals are not the issue here.....its whether or not MLK is D1 or D2 and why.......

Its nice to think that everyone is as transparent as they seem to be but sometimes people can see right through them....

You are correct. This thread is goofy. In fact, with Choadsky and RR2 running things, this nonsense is the norm.

Just don't post. Sorry I bothered reading this today.

The right team made it in. Newark wasn't that good, Cape lost to a mid-level Sussex Central and squandered there chance. Salesinum deserved to be in. They owned the number 2 team according to the points. They deserve it.
On every other thread, people are bitching about Tower Hill making it and not deserving to go. All those people should be backing Salesinum, the right team made it in.

They do deserve to be in it ( they are where they should be seeded #6) That's stretching it with owned, MT lead 17-16 with just over 7 min remaining, 4 turnovers killed MT all resulting in points, 1 for a TD, But owned no way!! Poor play calling and turnovers, Sals can thank MT for playoff berth!! MT rushed for 316 yds to Sals 203

They did, first round this week, and we'll see how far the momentum from the win will carry them.
You are correct. This thread is goofy. In fact, with Choadsky and RR2 running things, this nonsense is the norm.

Just don't post. Sorry I bothered reading this today.

Looks to me like that is exactly what you're saying.
Well, looks like my account credentials became corrupt. But now that I am back with a new handle, let me address the above post. Hey Cog, don't twist my words, it's just bad form. Believe me, I write enough stupid things on this board to look like an idiot on my own. I don't need your help, please don't do it again. For the benefit of those who didn't read my original post, from which the re-cog chose to cherry pick a sentence, here it is.

Ikey, if we ever see each other again...say. DSSAA.....I will proceed to filibuster. (Not sure if filibuster can be a verb)
