Global Warming my fanny. Climate change is the correct term. I feel sorry for these boys come march 1st, i really hope the weather warms up.

need to petition diaa to change the start date even earlier to allow indoor practices with coaches because of the weather basically have a week of practice then scrimmages half that week is tryouts , fall sports get several weeks before they do anything

Maybe they should make baseball a fall sport. The weather in Delaware is more suited for baseball in September and October then it is in March and April

There would be a huge decrease in participation, as well as increased injuries that occur during the season. Many of the players are coming off of a very long, competitive, demanding summer and use part of the fall to start winding down. Also, making it a fall season would put Delaware high school players a big disadvantage because when summer ball rolls around and its time to perform at different summer events, they will not have peaked.

Yeah, I guess I didn't think that one through. Lot of baseball players like to play football too.

You would switch football and baseball. As far as the long, grueling thing, meh. Burnout would be an issue, but like Yaz said, a lot of these kids are playing football anyway. That's far more grueling than baseball.

Anyway, biggest problem is, you'd have to get surrounding states to agree too. Not a huge issue in baseball, but it is with football.

From what I hear a lot of schools are having volunteer practices during the week anyway.

Plus, ball players find a way to get themselves ready.

I could see the state letting the coaching staffs letting them take their teams to Florida for a Presidents Day weekend Spring Training Tournament since most schools have off. I think that would help a ton on the injury front and have them ready for the 1st week of scrimmages. Feb 1st should be the date to start baseball practices.

Some states, as where I grew up (Kansas) did not have HS baseball teams.. (because of these weather related issues) It was all Legion ball or rec ball in the summer. .. I think they do now but they didn't back then .. That said there was only one legion team in Manhattan and every kid in and around Manhattan went to Manhattan High so essentially trying out for the Legion team was the Manhattan High team.. The kids that did't make it played rec ball..

Actually that is not entirely true,.Manhattan did have one Catholic private school (Lucky High) and we did have one kid on our team that went to Lucky
