Tired of Hearing About Smyrna

Hopefully after Friday nights blow out by Sallies 76 -56 we can now put to rest how good people think Smyrna is. Smyrna cant run with the Big Dogs. Obviously Smyrna cant stop the run at all to let a kid rush for just aboit 400 yds by himself. This just shows too that the scrimmage they had with WP was a fluke too because if they cant stop Sallies it will be just as bad if they play WP with all their starters and if they play a Middletown team . So all you Smyrna fans sorry they built your hopes up to see them fall in week 3 . Hope we can all agree now that Smyrna is not ready for Sallies or WP, or a Middletown just saying .

Since your tired of hearing about Smyrna, why not post yet another thread about Smyrna!? Actually, they ran with the biggest dog for 56 points. Smyrna was not supposed to beat Sallies. But can you think of a time when there were people (myself included) that thought that Smyrna COULD beat them? Be careful putting WP. Sallies and MT all in the same breath. Each team has its strengths and weaknesses and you can't automatically extrapolate from one game to another. If Smyrna ends up the fourth or fifth best team in the state, that is a win. Third game of the season and not too bad. If there wasn't so much Smyrna hype, maybe Reeder wouldn't have gone ape$%&# on them and been so motivated. It all works out. Smyrna has come a long way in a short time. Good on them. It's kids playing football and its all good. Come to think of it, I'm tired of hearing about anyone who is tired of hearing about Smyrna. Talk up your team, don't talk down another one.

Well said YJM! With that said,Offense sells tickets, Defense wins championships! Neither team will be in the Ship this year because of poor defense's, defensively WP and MT are in class of their own this year. But I do think Smyrna has an easier road to the post season, ST really the only challenge left on schedule. Sals has 3-4 tough games left on schedule.

They need to re-name this board to the Salesianum football message board.

I'm just joking

Smyrna is fun to watch and fun to talk about. I don't see the issue.

All im saying is now maybe there wont be so much hype now about Smyrna. They are definitely an improved team from recdnt years and look their best this year bit I was just stating reality and facts . People got hyped up because they beat a WP team in a scrimmage that was missing half its starters. I hope Smyrna does make the playoffs and hope they face a Sallies, WP, or Middletown your going to get the same end result .

Fan, its funny how we all over look the fact Reeder though an incredible athlete and one hell of a game this week, is literally a MAN among boys!! Especially the Sals faithful no mention of that fact! He will be 19 in a few months, playing against 15-17 olds ! Come on guys really !! He won't break double digit yards against WP or MT!!

Agree

Whew, sour grapes at the genesis of this thread. A team who hasn't really been of consequence in the state in the current generation (and then some) makes a move and now folks are tired of them? Weird. Either way, I'm all for some shakeups and some new blood. The same schools and teams winning all the time gets to be a drag and Smyrna might fizzle out or they could end up starting their own tradition a la Middletown. I'd much prefer the latter, myself.

just 2 years ago William Penn was the press darlings when they made their move back up...

As my girl Taylor sings... "And the haters gonna hate hate hate.... just gotta shake it off." :D
Best part of this thread is that DEFENSEREST is just creating more hype for Smyrna. Man I love this board!!!

Why do I think Sallies will beat Penn and MT convincingly?
Dove tail, Not sure Why? Tell Us! I do think they will probably beat MT next week, not sure convincingly! Only because MT is not in a good place right now due to injuries, but if MT gets healthier come post season no chance!! Thats a fact! AS far as Penn no shot of beating them, Sals line is too soft !! And running Reeder +30 times won't happen they won't have the opportunity too WP will take control of the clock!

Lol hahahaha , im just speaking the truth hate all you want . Its reality Smyrna was hyped up by fools on here and got put in their place Friday night they cant run with the big dogs thats all im saying . It was funny I was at that scrimmage game vs WP you might have thought they won the state championship . I wont disagree Smyrna looked good very nice passing game but that wont ever happen again with Penns starters dont forget I counted at least 9 starters missing and some not even there that night . So good luck I hope Smyrna does make it to playoffs .

By your theories Middletown, St. Mark's, Sussex Tech, St. George's, Laurel, Hodgson and Sussex Central were NOT BIG DOGS last year... They all lost a game by 20 or more points...

2014:

WP beat MT by 28 and St. M by 28 & 24

MT beat ST by 30

Hodgson beat St. G by 25 and Laurel by 42

St. G beat Hodgson by 20

ST beat SC by 36

They have age guidelines in high school and Reeder is completely within those guidelines correct??

Yes, and the fact that he works harder in the weight room and in the class room than most of the other "stars" is lost in this discussion. He's bigger, stronger and faster not because of his age, but because of his work ethic and his desire.

Look forward to MT and WP.

Mob....Reeder my lips.....He WILL eclipse 100 on both and Sals will win both....remember this post

Jawnsky & Wooden ,I believe the rule is as long as he can't get served in Gallucios! You don't think age has anything to with it, 19 yrs. vs 15-17 yrs. come on brother! Absolutely he is an incredible athlete, and yes puts a lot time and effort in the weight/ class room probably more than 90% of Delaware athletes, and he will be rewarded for his efforts no doubt! But to say that having 1 1/2 years -3 years on the other athletes is not an edge absurd. Like I stated they probably will beat MT, only due to several key injuries. Reeder won't have more than 75 yds. + ( 2 fumbles).

Don't you know that once a high school football player becomes 19 he acquires supernatural powers: faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap buildings in a single bound. Its true, I read it somewhere....

Now that's funny! Dove, you sound like the type of guy that wouldn't have an issue with your 15 year old daughter dating a 19 year old GUY either?

Here's a thought. Reeder is going FCS. Miami has offered. When he takes first practice, he will likely be butting heads with wow, 23 year old redshirt seniors So what, its all relative.

Mob....I agree with you on the age aspect....just not your take on what he will/wont do vs MT/Penn.

Dove...cannot disagree with you more....huge difference between HS and FCS, yes he will be taking on players in college that are older etc, but to act like its the same kinda thing in HS FB is a joke man......In HS he is playing against 99% kids who will not be playing FCS and most wont even play college ball at all. And of that 99%-how many of these kids how many of them are in similar situations as he is? Nobody is trying to take away from what he has accomplished and what he will accomplish.

Thank you Jawnsky , my point exactly! No disrespect to #28, hell of a player! Agree to disagree on yardage against Penn / MT! Wish him well! I do think he won't have the running lanes he has had, and poor tackling won't be a factor MT & Penn swarm to the ball.

The same things were said about Reeders brother, sounds to me like hard work and good genes pay off. Remember, we have a lot of undersized student athletes in the first state. Please don't confuse talent with age and size, he is a legal player and a damn good one at that. Just saying

Exactly 84 , not disputing their athleticism, he was 2 years older than most of the other graduates too!! Would either of them had the success that came their way if they graduated 2 years earlier? Maybe/ Maybe not!

The age thing is silly. Go check the Penn or Cavs roster you'll find a bunch. Not saying they were held back for sports or started late or whatever. I'm willing to bet cash money that the average age on both of those teams is older than the average age on the Sallies team. So Penn or Middletown has twice as many 18 year olds as Sallies, does that make a difference? Kid can play, let it rest.
