This is really early and laughable I guess to an extent but what's the offseason without some bantering talk. My playoff predictions for both divisions and are as follows in no particular order....

Division 1: Smyrna, Middletown, Salesianum, Concord, Sussex Tech, and Cape Henlopen.

I believe the blue hen conference other than those two listed are going to beat up on one another and get beat out by the Henlopen, my wild card pick though....would be Mount Pleasant, they lost some key players, a lot, but they found something last year and I think will run with it this year.

Division 2: St. Georges, Glasgow, Hodgson, Lake Forest, Caravel, Tatnall, DMA, Delmar

Absolutely no insight into Division 2 yet, just strictly what I've seen in 7on7, and some wild guesses.

If I had to start a Preseason Rankings, it would be as follows

Division 1:
1. Smyrna, 2. Middletown, 3. Concord, 4. Salesianum, 5. Sussex Tech, 6. A.i. DuPont, 7. Cape Henlopen, 8. Appoquinimink, 9. Caesar Rodney, 10. Newark

Division 2:
1. Howard, 2. St. Georges, 3. Lake Forest, 4. DMA, 5. Caravel, 6. Glasgow, 7. Archmere, 8. Hodgson, 9. Tatnall, 10. Delmar

1) Town- now that father's child is gone and we got a stud in there we are taking it back. Nuff said.
2) Smyrna- can't see anyone stopping Knight or Son of Hender on offense. Knight might be the best running back in state history not named Brandon Brown.
3) Concord- them Roberts young men are nice.

Nobody else really matters. Pizzle.

And a side note- Caravel's football players might be able to bring home the D2 championship if they all quit and play a girls sport like soccer.

AI Preseason Rankings:

D1: Smyrna, Concord, Middletown, Sussex Tech, Sallies, Cape

D2: DMA, Glasgow, Caravel, Lake Forest, HVT, St. Elizabeth.

For some strange reason, I have a good feeling about Glasgow this year.

Tatnall??? Really Bruh? There are two way better teams in the Indy Conference

Yeah Tatnall, I've watched them during 7on7 this offseason and they have impressed me. But this is called "too early" predictions. The chances any of us are accurate is .001 percent

Did they recruit a couple kids from Chester to come down like they do every few years for basketball? I can't imagine those prissy little girls looking good without some outside help

I don't think we seeing the same stuff Bruh. There QB was something lite and the new one is nothing special in a mostly passing offense.

These are in predicted order of finish (W/L-not points)
D1
Smyrna 10-0/9-1
Middletown 9-1/8-2
William Penn 8-2/7-3
Concord 8-2/7-3
Sussex Tech 8-2/7-3
Salesianum 6-4/5-5 (points will get them in)

D2
Caravel 10-0/9-1
St Elizabeth 9-1/8-2
Hodgson 8-2
Conrad 7-3/6-4
Del. Military 7-3/6-4
Hen South Winner
Auks 6-4
Toss up- Hen South/Indy Team/St. Georges?

Sussex Central will finish second in the North if the Knights stay healthy.

The South is crazy. I'm almost sad I won't be there to watch it unfold. Woodbridge seems to be the early pick, which is fine. IR should be better than people think. Milford has some strong skill position kids back. Lake and Delmar both have pedigree. I could see any of those five teams winning the division. As a side note, the only two programs I think have no chance have a combined five state championships (I think) between them. My how things have changed over the years.

Woodbridge is definitely the team to beat in the south. They were young, fast and well coached last year and almost everyone is coming back. I can't see Tatnall winning more than 5 games. Friends went to the semi-finals the last two years in a row (with a 20-3 overall record) almost beating Howard last year and also lost very few starters. They will be a playoff team again. Howard will be back again. St E's and Archmere both have a fairly easy schedules too and should get in. Caravel does not, and if they get in, it will be on points. Hodgson and DMA should be there as well as Lake Forest and/or Laurel. Finally, I am not sure you can ever count out St. Georges.

Division I:

3 horse race - Middletown, Smyrna, Sallies (Concord and ST could contend)

Division II:

Wide Open - I Like St. G's, LF, Woodbridge & Howard

Unless Lake got some incoming players from somewhere, I don't see playoffs this year. Maybe they look good in 7v7s but they lost A LOT from last season. Not many big time players returning from what I remember.

Having talked to a Laurel coach recently, it would appear I thought the team lost more players to graduation than it actually did. Maybe the Bulldogs are the surprise squad this season. Word is they have a pretty big line and are moving to a wing-t (I think I remember him saying that) approach. Just hope they let their QB throw some.

My guess is they are one of them. Woodbridge is another, and after all the talk about the talent enrolling into caravel, they might be the favorite, but they do have a brutal schedule. Woodbridge, and STG will reach the playoffs, but I think if caravel can get past their stronger schedule, I'd be on the look out against them come post season

CA's best players are the same Medley and Montgomery.. Same questions on the line.. Barker is a wild card to see if he is a huge upgrade or difference maker but if they dont block better than last year it wont matter..

I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer here, but central hasn't been relevant since their 3 straight losses in the championship game. 2006,2007, and 2008. I hope countainjeff is right and they are competitive again. Their backwoods country feel down there is what I always liked about them. Hopefully Wells can get the most out of the talent down there and could be this years Mount Pleasant

I'm sure if relevant is the right word. Central has had some very good seasons since those championship appearances and they are roughly 20 games over .500 in that span. Maybe not great when such a high standard has been set.........I will leave the "backwoods" comment alone.

Backwoods probably wasn't the best word choice, my apologies for that scfan, just the country feel that they have down there is great. Reminds me of what Middletown USED to be.

"Backwoods"
....I got no problem with that choice of verbiage. Its not meant to be hurtful, it is what it is. You got the atmosphere that most HS teams wish they had....
-obnoxious announcer
-visitors treated as they should be
-they toss rocks

what more can you ask for :D

Oh god jawnsky, you done opened a Pandora's box with the rock throwing, with all the football that year, the famous rock thrower was the most talked about. Speaking of which, anyone heard from NewarkRocks lately?

I was at that game standing with chesdel, blue tea and uncle Angelo when the rock went flying. We had some good times that year, the "kicking chicken" was probably my highlight of the night.

D1 predictions

1.Smyrna
2.Salesianum
3.Middletown
4.Concord!

Smyrna skill positions are best in the state
Salesianum has a great line
Penn graduates a lot.
