Haven’t followed D2 as strongly as I used too. So here’s my list

1. Sallies - returns a young team who was said to be “a year away” that reached the championship game.

2. Hodgson - much of the starting offense returns that put up incredible numbers against everyone they played. Henry is my pick for top QB going into the season

3. Dover - Peace is a type of player that changes games, no matter who they go up against. If Dover can get some key contributors around him then they have a legit shot to reach the finals

4. Middletown - Returns a solid offensive and defensive line. One of the fastest running backs in Scrappy. Having new starters at the Receiver and Quarterback positions give a lot of uncertainty with this team.

5. Sussex Central - list KEY pieces from their championship team but Wells knows how to run a playoff seeking team. I expect them to reload and compete with Dover and Smyrna for the Henny North.

Just missed top 5

Smyrna - a 3peat champion who answered that by winning only 3 games last season. Despite that, still had a shot at reaching the playoffs. If the QB can grow and Knight can resemble what his brother did this team isn’t going anywhere and will provide problems.

Sussex Tech - always fields a solid team with a good core of returning starters

Appo - reaches their first ever D1 playoff and if done right, should build off of it and get better. The schedule they field will not be easy. Hodgson, Middletown, and Sallies

D1:

1. Sallies has to be the favorite and though their history goes back farther than I can imagine, this could be one of the best teams they've ever put on the field.

2. Hodgson - That offense is devastating, but can they beat Sallies?

3. Dover - all depends on who's at QB. Peace is the top RB in the state for my money

4. Middletown will forever be in the mix. Haven't seen the young QB everybody's talking about (maybe we can catch him in the 7 on 7 league)

5. Sussex Central - was really nice to see one of the state's more consistent programs finally win a chip. How will they respond with that target on their back? Time will tell...

Honorable Mention: Smyrna (should return a lot of talent as always), St. Georges (Coach Wilson has had a year to get himself used to quasi-public school coaching, I think they'll be much improved), Sussex Tech is always good, Appo's first D1 tournament appearance could boost confidence.

D2:

1. Delmar - They ran into a Woodbridge buzzsaw twice last year, but I don't see that being an issue this year. Plenty of talent at all skill positions, great defense and a legendary coach has to make them the early D2 fave.

2. The Bridge should still be very good, but how will they replace their all-state players? Still D2's weak enough for them to still be a title pick.

3. Friends has Wyatt Nelson at QB for one more year and hopefully they can keep him healthy.

4. I was one of Tower Hill's harshest critics because of the scheduling, however, they have the talent to be super dangerous.

5. Caravel - A really young team ended the year on a 5 game winning streak, wouldn't surprise me if they claimed the title they were robbed of in 2017.

Honorable mention: Howard's the best team in Flight B, AI's close behind, St. E should be much improved, is this the year Conrad breaks through, DMA returns a nice core as does Archmere.

He played on both, but his snap count on Varsity never eliminated him from playing JV if my info is correct. I’m not sure how he fared in JV, I haven’t really followed the JV or freshman teams since I was in school.

I do know the TEAM didn’t fare too well.

I’ve seen Braden play in 7on7, the scrimmage against national ranked St. France’s, against national power IMG, and in scrap up time against the lesser teams on the Mtown schedule. And during those times he looks like he could be something special when the talent is around him. I’m not sure if he is the game changer that these D1 offers are automatically making him out to be, at least not yet. He’s only going into 10th grade so that trait can come and he will continue to learn as he grows. He certainly has the right people in front of him pushing him to do so, anyway so after that it’s up to him

I do think he can be better than some of the QBs Middletown has had in the past.

Nice Piece of Analysis.

Of your top 5 or 6, it should be interesting to see how many face each other in head to head competition,
The Big S plays Hodgson, Dover, Middletown, Smyrna and Appo...while scrimmaging Sussex Central.

I think DOVER is the coming program with that paisan as head coach.

MT JV only played 4 games the rest were cancelled. A lot of schools are having trouble fielding JV teams

FYI the rule in DE is not how many plays or snaps its you get 5 quarters per week. It is why a lot of teams don't put back ups in until the 4th so the backups are available for the full JV game. If you play one snap in a quarter it counts as a quarter. Special teams don't count

Caravel very well may be in the hunt for the title this year. But to claim that they were robbed of the title in 2017 is a stretch. If memory serves me they played Delmar in 2016, verbally agreed to play them again in 2017 but then dropped them. Caravel was a victim of their own scheduling games.

CA has a fairly tough schedule for them to get in they are going to have to win at least one of the D1 games and maybe 2 depending how they do vs WB,St E, DMA and guessing the final 2 games vs DMA and St E will be must win games to get a spot

Will Marks be back as OC for Smyrna? He was suspended for the end of the season last year and there was some rumors he was not coming back.

I suppose.

But if you're telling me Tower Hill in 2017 was a better team than Caravel, I would just say we agree to disagree. No way the Hillers should've gotten in with that schedule that year.

I don’t know the story but Fry has an issue with grades, at least early on, that hinges a lot of teams from even looking at you.

I don't think Fry hit the camps, combine and events hard.. definitely not as hard as Braden is.. I don't think there is an event , camp or combine he hasn't hit. Kid is humping the trail and it seems to be paying off

He may throw them out but would he waste one one someone he didn’t think had the talent to play in the SEC?

Saban knows how to recruit and win, so if he thinks Braden can play then I’ll take the offer as something special.

I don’t think anyone said it was a “committable” offer. I think there’s a big difference between the two.

Point I was making it’s a throw your hat in the ring and they watch the development. Verbal offer does not mean anything is coming on the fax machine. It’s a dirty game right now. They throw verbals around like candy to youngins who have the measurable’s. Then see what shakes out and there are allot of people making money on the whole thing. Bottom line verbal offers ain’t worth anything but to the folks profiting on the kids with their recruiting services or programs and the kids who think they have something and have “arrived”. So many times I see kids get the verbals early and they don’t come to fruition. It’s not a good thing. Give real offers to HS seniors. Just my opinion

The actual percentage of kids actually getting D1 power 5 scholarships hasn’t changed. Kids getting verbal offers has. Kids getting verbals has and it has in alarming percentages of actual scholarships available.

The whole thing is a business from Rec to NFL and the players are the pons as well as the entertainment fueling the money.
