Upstate facilities & fields

it seems like many of the schools in Kent & Sussex county have updated state of the art weightrooms, gyms, & fields. Cape, IR, & Sussex Central all have high schools that have been built in the past 8-10 years. New Castle county public schools need some major upgrades. Is it the stupid referendums that are holding them back? I remember a few years back Brandywine School district had to pull turf fields off there referendum to get it to pass.

Kent and Sussex are still pretty spread open as far as space and budget goes. New Castle, not so much. St. Georges and Appo are the only new real schools I can think of, and they're below the canal. School boards are always about politics and it's why nothing can ever get done. Brandywine should've had the turf thing locked down, but didn't. Red Clay and Christina are bleeding damn near dry and Vo-Tech doesn't want to spend the money on Hodgson/Delcastle/Howard.

Gate I think you referred to it in your post but one of the reasons upstate stadiums aren't being upgraded is because of space. The farther north you go you see the stadiums in the middle of houses and developments or in the city. You can't really "upgrade" when you don't have the space or permits to do so.

I for one am I a firm believer that every school should have lights. I have never liked Saturday morning games and never will but you can't put thousands of dollars into lights when they will shine through the windows of a home. Saturday's are for college ball.

And then there's the money. There just isn't any of it to just pass out. That's why schools like st. Marks, st. Elizabeth's, Christiana, Newark and so on are suffering.

Besides St. George's and appo like mentioned above, cape and Smyrna are twonthat come to
Mind who upgraded their stadiums and they look great. Far behind what they had before. And then dover getting what they got.

But who knows maybe in some years when the population keeps growing there will be some money and we can have some jumbo Trons and replays.....but for now I'll settle for stadium lights.
