Way too early top 5

It's way too early for this. As far as top 5, we always have to start out with how it ended. I would say with all of the craziness of transfers and parents wanting to reclassify their kids, we will have to wait on this until the dust settles.

1) Smyrna (IF either Brown or Knight stays) if both leave they are out but they only need 1
2) Middletown (Frye is back for a Junior Season)
3) Sallies (Always Competitive)
4) William Penn
5) Either Dover or Sussex Central

I do not believe that Howard deserves to be ranked 1 out of the D2 schools.
My ranking is:

I like that. I know Howard had some young skill returning. I just saw their schedule. Tough non conference schedule. They may struggle early especially losing some quality lineman. Time will tell. Woodbridge has the qb and Kane returning. They do lose some firepower. Glasgow loses qb but I like the defense. Very solid unit and return one of the best players in the state on defense.

Those are my top 3 but st. Mark's, DMA, Milford, etc are not too far away. Should be a interesting year in both Divisions.

I am excited to see Flight A. People have been waiting to see hvt and st g. in the conference for awhile. Those two being up is the most intriguing thing of this season

FanofDeFootball.......just curious. Why the love for Laurel? They lose their QB I believe, who was their offense.

Woodbridge will have a tough time next year as well. Losing a lot! Most of the team were Seniors who have been together.
Dover loses Castro, Warren, Wilson and Mosely. Returns Magee at Qb

Woodbridge will be fine. We have a stable of running backs and our receiving crew is back. We do have to replace the Player of the year on defense but we have pieces to filled those spots but when you have 70 to 75% of your starters back, plus the Quarterback (Troy Haynes), Wide Receiver (Mike Brewer), Running Back (Jamon Kane), Running Back (Richard Massey) Running Back (T.J. Kane), The Whole Linebacker Crew anchor by Brock Keller, KJ Mosley and The bus Massey, The Corners, The Safeties, all conference lineman and the Coach of the year! I think we are in the top three.

I saw the laurel vs wbridge game. Was impressed with the D. I think the offense will grow enough in yr 2 of new coach. I don't have them too high in top 10. Would be 9 or 10.

Milford loses a ton and has stepped up their schedule. Could be some growing pains this year.

How do you see the South playing out?
I have to agree with you in Woodbridge, then Laurel. Woodbridge brings back all/most of their skill players, but will need to fill in some holes along the front. That defensive front was one of the better I have seen in the South, so it should be a challenge to match last years group. Laurel showed me a lot last year when I saw them play Milford and liked how they looked, they just need to hit the weight room. They wore down as the game went on and it cost them. Second year coach and a tad softer schedule has them in the playoff mix.

In D1...I'd move Sussex Central up behind Sallies and replace Concord with Penn, Sussex Tech, or Cape...Concord is like Mt. Pleasant in basketball (loaded with talent but doesn't live up to expectations.

In my opinion after Woodbridge D2 is wide open this year. My sleeper team is Delmar....I've always been a fan of what Coach Hearn does down there at Delmar. It's also going to be interesting to see what A.I. Dupont looks like in D2 because they seem to always have speed on their team and their Sophomore QB Chad Jones looked pretty good when I saw him play this past season.

My Early Rankings...

Smyrna - they are #1 until someone beats them. They return two of the states premier players.

Middletown - despite a new coach, Majority of their team returns with Drew Fry, Kedrick Whitehead.

Salesianum - A Dinardo coached team usually never falls short of a Top 3 ranking.

Sussex Central - has finally stepped up since their 04-08 years.

William Penn - Coach Dooley has helped elevate this program back to prominance.

Concord, and Sussex Tech will be contenders.

Dark Horses....Cape Henlopen and St. Georges
