Our good friend Mr. Clock started his marathon training in epic fashion as the 24 games featuring at least 1 DE team were decided by 565 points, or an average of 23.5 points per game. Gonna be a rough year for some teams and others are on target for what we expect.
Hodgson outlasted Dover in a laundry-fest, Sallies handled Penn and Middletown stopped Smyrna, meaning that Dover (and possibly Middletown) have quarterback woes to take care of, while Sallies' defense might just be good enough to silence them all...unless Sussex Central has anything to say about it. 3 hour drive to whoop up on a Charles County MD school for maybe 6 points (not sure of La Plata's enrollment yet) is a lot, but a win's a win.
Lots of D2 teams (Howard, Tower Hill, DMA, Lake Forest, Archmere) have a slight leg up on their opponents with some easy 6 point wins, but more time will tell once they find equal or better competition. Friends outscored AI and Woodbridge finally got going against Caravel in a game that I thought would be closer. St. E and St. Mark's got started with blowout wins against substandard teams as well. Brandywine and Glasgow with two big wins should also have D2 paying close attention to those two schools.
Next week's games to watch aren't high in number, but definitely matchups worth watching:
CR visits Caravel in a battle of teams who could really use a win after rough week 1 games.
Hodgson takes on St. Georges in a Vo-Tech district battle
DMA could pick up another 6 points vs. Milford or will the Bucs have a good 2-0 non-conference mark heading into their Henny North sched?
St. Mark's and St. E have a big one at Caravel
Last but not least, Sallies vs. Dover at Brandywine this week. Maybe the parking situation will be slightly better there than it was at AI Friday night. What a disaster.
