D1 thoughts: Middletown and William Penn are the class of Flight A as it's been for years. Those two make the playoffs easily, the rest of the conference is a crapshoot. Still think St. Georges has a good shot.

If Sallies does indeed commit to letting Zach Gwynn sling it, they're a title favorite, no questions asked.

Smyrna should still win the Henlopen North handily, but some tweaking will be required with that offense, surprisingly enough.

D2 thoughts: Howard looked very very good against St. Georges, a team they hadn't beaten in the regular season since 2011 (not counting the D2 title game in 2015). If they can stay healthy, they're a title favorite.

McKean, Dickinson and Brandywine ALL won - not saying any of them make the tournament, but it's nice to have three previously good programs have some success.

Delmar and Woodbridge were dominant against out of state opponents and Milford picked up a HUGE 4 points against Sussex Tech, so the Henlopen South looks to be interesting once again.

St. E is better than 1-9. My bad.

They are the only team with a legitimate shot at the Football, Soccer, Cross Country Triple Crown and I believe the only Delaware School to have pulled that off not once, but a couple times

Concord was so bad I am not willing to annoint Sallies as a contender yet. But they are on the radar

Howard jumped up alot. I didn't think they had anything but they have a good coach and an unknown stud in Harley. I jump Howard over AI for the Flight B champ

Archmere is now my fave for Diamond State. DMA second but both will get in. I cant remember the last time Archmere scored that many points and they did it vs D1 Dover. Crazy

Archmere received 6 points after the win over Dover, not 4

After the end of it, we can sit here and say what should have happened or what could have happened but Middletown and Smyrna are still the top dogs.

How good is William Penn really? Do we know anything on what type of program that Merganherter is? The only way we'll find out where they stack up is next Saturday. Until then, they are still 3 TD underdog against MT and SMY.

Concord looked TERRIBLE! Unless they figure it out they won't be able to compete against Penn, MT, And Sallies and with only 9 games, it could hurt them.

Sallies had the potential to beat anyone, but with how bad concord looked, it would have been bad if they didn't blow them out.

Is Archmere that good? Or is Dover what they've been? Not as impressive of a win to me.

Hodgson is NOT the hodgson of old, they struggle severely in Division 1.

St. George's was outplayed and couldn't live up to the hype of being a contender. They have some easy games, but won't be able to last against the top teams on their schedule.

Sussex tech FAILED to put any points in a Division 2 team? Their season is over. Watch out for Milford.

Henlopen South is the class of Division 2.

Soccer and cross country are really being factored in? Those two sports are just a numbers game. If you're too chickenshit for football, you play soccer. If you're too chickenshit for soccer, you run cross county. Schools with more boys, like the Catholics schools, stand to do better.

Let's just factor in cheerleading too

Sounds like somebody who doesn't have the endurance to run up and down a soccer pitch or a long distance race...

Pickle you sound like one of those meathead fans in the stands screaming "hit somebody " fyi there is so much more to the game than that. I also respect athletes from other sports and being good at their game. You dont have to don a helmet and run into a wall to be tough and athletic. This is not Sparta lol

Dude! Do you know how hard it is to get all 3 Fall State Championships? Cool that you had some hot players and grabbed two football Championships. Enjoy them. Judge Judy is nothing special, just a guy that had some players. Enjoy the band! They are good

That's an average of 3 state championships a year for the last 50 years. Here is a question for the clones....how many swimming or soccer or cross country titles is worth a FB or basketball title? Is it a 3/1 or 4/1 ratio?

Sallies is very unique with the ability to be an all boys school with well over 1000+ students. They should certainly compete in just about every sport regardless. A triple crown in all 3 sports seasons should be expected & be the norm. It's took 40 years to win a boys basketball title. Doubt we'll see it happen again for another 40 years. I don't see any Donte's there or in there CYM pipeline. They tried to recruit much more aggressively then they have in the past & had several minority players come in over the last 3-5 years & that somewhat back fired when 3-4 minorities departed to other schools. Rumors abound on that topic. No triple crown for the Broom streeters this year. They can't beat Middletown or Smyrna.

D1 going 1-7 against D2 isn't that surprising. Outside of MT, Smyrna, WP, Sallies and Concord who in D1 should really be dominate against D2. It isn't like all of D1 is like a mid major or FCS college team playing Alabama, Michgan or Ohio State. When the match-ups are right like last week D2 has equal chance as anyone else.

Week 2 D1 vs D2
Charter @ AI
Poly @ IR
Dover @ Woodbridge
Howard @ Hodgson

I think it D2 will go 3-1 this weekend but wouldn't be surprise if it was 4-0.

looks like AI is going to pull a quick 12 pts

Howard HVT is a tough one to call. Those 10am games at Hodgson are brutal lol its usually good game between these two

I think D2 runs a clean sweep of D1 this weekend. IR was a pleasant surprise against a good Glasgow team and Polytech...well they ain't Glasgow.

Howard and Hodgson is the toughest call, as Hodgson seems to have more going for them offensively than St. Georges does. Still like Howard in that one.

No way AI loses to Charter.

Without their QB Dover had to rally against Archmere to even make it a game. Woodbridge is better than Archmere, so I'm taking Woodbridge.

IR was a pleasant surprise but don't let the win get overblown. Glasgow lost their top WR (Jones) on their second KR. He is their best receiver and was their primary slot to get the jet sweeps. They were very sloppy after he went down and in the first half IR punched them in the mouth quick but after that IR's ball movement was more happy fortune than talent. Can't call 65+ yard gain to get you 1st and goal at the end of game coming from 4th down hail mary that consisted of safety misplaying the ball and CB having the ball bounce off his hands into the receiver lap. Then the tying TD coming on 4th down from a blown coverage and lastly the 2pt conversion having the ball again in the Glasgow defenders hand only to get knocked out by his own teammate from bridging him...smh. Not saying IR won't give some teams problems but they shouldn't be more than a 4-6 team. Poly is definitely a better team than last year. They let the game against AI get away should have won that one.

Not sure how Hodgson is better than St. Georges offensively. When they only scored 7 pts. Hodgson has the same people they have had since Jones graduated. Who can play consistently good QB? If they get good QB play they can do something.

Side note: It will be interesting to see what Glasgow looks like going forward. Haven't heard the extent of the injuries but as mention losing Jones in the first and Butts in the 3rd really hurt them and limited what they wanted to do.

Yes, but they have zero softball championships, while Milford has multiple softball titles :)

Does Delmar and Woodbridge get 6 for out of state? I forget how that works. Also, doesn't Milford get 6 for beating D1?

Yes 6 for beating D1, as for out of state you only get 6 if the OOS school has 1119 students or more

Sallies won the triple crown back to back in 2005 and 2006. I was fortunate enough to be a part of it in 2005 and I believe it was the first time in the states history. I am not sure if they won another after that. Regardless of the 1000 boys and athletes they get, it takes an immense amount of dedication and motivation to do so. Just because you are an 8th grade superstar does not mean you will be a superstar or even find success at the high school level.
