2011 Girls High School Playoffs at Caravel

Charter 1-0 Early score by Michelle Lonergon.

AI 1-0 late score by Lauren Davis.

Rematch of BlueHen conference rivals !

First game, great early score (2nd min), totally caught Pandas by surprise totally flat-footed, then 76+ minutes of boredom (as it was hot as hell, humid and dreadful), lack of creativity, stalling. Or maybe it was just some really good defending and a bit of luck for Charter (kudos to Johnny G). Then, on 77th min or so, a Charter striker on a breakaway gets the ball snatched by the Padua goalie, so she (the Charter Striker), instead of jumping over her (Padua Goalie), kicks the goalkeeper in the head and knocks he out of the rest of the game. The striker got a yellow card (which looked kind of green under those Caravel lights). Luckily, the reserve goalie was really good, too: A minute later she makes a nice save after the free kick hit the crossbar, bounced back to a Charter player and got shot almost at a point blank. Also, the starting Padua goalie seemed to be OK, as she was mulling around in the stands after her game hanging out with her Charter friends (that looked a little bizarre, but I guess it's Delaware, and they probably play on the same Kirkwood (?) travel team, hahaha!) AI v. St.M, on the other hand, wow, what a match, fast pace, very physical, French kept the clean sheets for most of the match-made some spectacular saves (hope the picture gets into the paper tomorrow), but AI had the horses that time and StM didn't clean up the garbage after the ball hit the crossbar, and then was headed in by AI #5. Great game, great win, all the best to the players on FridaY!

A phenomenal final match tonight!...Also, a phenomenally bad officiating as per usual, everyone's lucky that no one got hurt. Two unbelievable goals, first was from at least 35 yards out a shot by L. Davis, the second a curving free kick from 25 yards or so by Maddy Mc. What a game! Charter countered every once in a while, showed some brilliant buildup a few times, and fought vigilantly till the final whistle. Great game!
