Hotley contested, defensive basketball game from start to finish. No team led by more than a handful of points the entire game. Newark gave it their best but couldn't get it done. Their big man, who had 36 points two games ago put up a big goose egg in this one. Don't like to hang a loss on one player, but when you lose by a bucket.... First time seeing Penn this year. The win brings them to 12-4, but I didn't see a team that warrants any top ten consideration. Some real questionable coaching decisions for Newark in this one, particularly holding the ball un-guarded for over a minute at the end of the third quarter when you are trailing by five? And trailing by two at the end of the game, with the ball and about 25 seconds on the clock, you let the clock wind down to 10 seconds before running your offense for a game winner? What if you miss? Which they did and there was less than a second left when they had to foul the WP kid who rebounded the missed buzzerbeater.

Newark: Pauls-18, Peal-5, Bond-5, Sherman-12, Knox-5

Penn: Walsh-12, Dowling-3, Burton-3, Church-4, Henriquez-13, Johnson-9, Gatson-3
