NEWARK, DE -- League-leading Old Dominion built a 14-point second half
lead and held on down the stretch to post a 56-49 Colonial Athletic
Association men’s basketball victory over turnover-plagued Delaware
Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Junior forward Alex Loughton was the lone Monarch in double figures
with
10 points but four others scored seven or more points as Old Dominion
(22-3, 12-1 CAA) won its fourth straight game and its 11th in the last
12 games. Kiah Thomas scored nine points, Valdas Vasylius scored eight,
Isaiah Hunter and Brian Henderson chipped in with seven each, and
Arnaud
Dahi scored six points and pulled a game-high 10 rebounds to lead a
balanced attack. ODU overcame 35.6 percent shooting from the field (21
of 59) and hit just 3 of 18 three-pointers.

Delaware (9-15, 6-7 CAA), which had won two straight games, got a
game-high 14 points and six rebounds from guard Mike Slattery while
Harding Nana contributed 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and
Calvin Smith added eight points and six rebounds. The Blue Hens could
never quite get back in the game all evening as they committed 25
turnovers and shot just 37.7 percent from the field, including 7 of 24
from beyond the three-point line.

Old Dominion won for the first time in four visits to the Bob Carpenter
Center while Delaware lost its fifth game of the season at the BCC.

The Monarchs built an 11-point first half lead at 20-9 with 7:38 left
but Delaware chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the score at
23-23 with 2:34 left on a Slattery three-pointer that capped a 14-3
run.
The Monarchs recovered and took a 32-27 lead into intermission.

Delaware cut the ODU lead to three points early in the second stanza
but
turnovers never allowed the Blue Hens to take the lead. Old Dominion
upped the lead to double figures at 43-33 with 12:50 left on a Loughton
jumper and the lead eventually peaked at 14 points at 52-38 on two free
throws by Vasylius with 7:28 remaining.

The Hens made one last run and cut the margin to five points at 54-49
on
a dunk by Robin Wentt with 1:34 but Delaware missed each of its final
four shots from the field and Thomas iced the game with two free throws
with 12 seconds left.
