NC and Caravel played back on May 21st. Caravel won 7-0, by the way of a 4-hitter thrown by Nelson beating Vivian/Chopko/kelby that day. Caravel has played NC two other times over the past two seasons, beating NC 7-1 with Dorr on the mound and 1-0 in 2015 with Dorr on the mound who threw a 3-hitter in the loss.

Caravel played St E in the first round on Saturday winning pretty easily behind the arm of Joey Silan. Silan pitched 5 innings, only needing 59 pitches to hold St E to 1 hit and 1 walk. Caravel’s bats helped out as well scoring in each of the first four innings to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Holiday and Nelson each threw an inning to close things down for Caravel.

Newark Charter played its first playoff game in school history against Archmere, starting off red hot and scoring 4 runs in the top of the first inning, then coasting to a 6-2 victory behind the good pitching of Chopko who threw an 85 pitch, 7 inning complete game. Buglio his 6th homer of the season to leave no doubt about this one.

Caravel will be without Silan and NC will be without Chopko. Dorr has plenty of experience against Caravel, while Vivian and Kelby have pitched well this season. Caravel has a small stable of arms including Croce, Keister, Nelson, Barker and Holiday all ready to go keeping in mind that Nelson shut NC down a few weeks ago.

Caravel has had one of its quietist seasons in my opinion. They are 14-4 as well as 7-1 against this years playoff teams. Sallies is the only team in state team to beat Caravel in a 6-5 game in which Sallies came from behind in the 6th inning. Caravel beat Cape, St Mks, Hodgson, Poly, Smyrna, Newark Charter and St E in the playoffs. Caravel has been scoring nearly 7 runs per game on average and allowing 4 runs per game on average. At the plate, Caravel has 5 different guys hit homers this year. On the mound, they have Silan who is 4-0 and one of the better pitchers in the state. They also have numerous other guys that have thrown this year; Nelson (3-1), Croce (2-2), Keister, HOliday, Barker.

Caravel's post season success will be of no surprise to anyone. They have made the post season tourney for the 27th season. They have a record of 40-22 over those seasons so far. They have captured 4 titles and have been to 8 championship games. 3 of those titles were in the past 10 seasons and they have been in the championship game 6 of the past 10 seasons.

Newark Charter is only in their third season. They were 10-7 in their inaugural season. They dipped to 8-10 last season and this year are 12-6. They are playing in their first post season and won that game over a good Archmere team, beating for a third time this season. Newark Charter is 6-6 against the other playoff teams this year. They started the season 8-2 with wins over Archmere, Sallies and DMA and close losses to Appo and St E. They have cooled slightly here at the end of the season going 4-4, but their losses were to Caravel, DMA and Conrad twice in close games. NC is scoring about 5 runs per game and allowing under 4 per game. On the mound they have pretty good pitching with Vivian (4-2), Kelby (4-1), Chopko and Dorr. At the plate Buglio has 5 homers this year.

Not sure how true it is because I heard it from another kid but they said Adams from Caravel may be done for playoffs because of grades.

Just so you know grades do not have to be final to rule a kid ineligible. Things such as progress reports, incomplete senior projects, etc can also do it.

Yeah whoever said Silan and Adams weren't playing were wrong they are both out in the field warming up

Chopko 2 quick outs walk hit batter wild pitch questionable call at first with Jones umpires get together call him safe caravel scores

Top 3 lesher lead off single bunt by Callahan caravel tries for 2nd and safe buglio hbp bases loaded again no outs

Let's talk about the umps. First game the strike zone was extremely wide. This game the pitcher has to throw the ball through a straw to get a called strike.

Nelson looking like Houdini out there works out of another bases loaded jam strikeout strikeout fly out to LF

Give us more....what call?

Runners on second and third 2 outs. Grounder up the middle. Shortstop makes great diving stop throws wide to the outfield side. First baseman makes a great stretch. Ump calls runner out. Then gets overturned. I did not have the angle to tell if the first baseman got pulled off the bag but have never seen another ump overcall the first base ump. The second base ump is over 90 feet away. No way the home plate ump could tell. The NCS team was in the dugout and got called back out. Only run of the game scored on that play.

The official scorer gave the shortstop an error on the play!

I was sitting right across from 1st base. Right call. Was off the bag by a foot.
