Saturday Scores Week 3

Same players were missing last week when they put the clock on WB correct? Same WB that just beat Tech 35-7. I think we can give Newark some credit on this one. Not saying you were trying to discredit their performance at all just adding that tid bit to the conversation
Nope. Just providing some info. Great Newark performance. And, they were without their PAT kicker today due to illness. If they’re healthy, they probably win.

Archmere's 15 game winning streak comes to an end with the loss to the Howard Wildcats who was the last team to beat them.

38-34 Howard final

Newark played great today. Lots of passion and energy. Probably the best effort they've had in a few years. Something to build on for sure.

St marks can put that championship parade on hold (missing players or not).

Can we officially put Howard in their rightful place as one of the 2A favorites without the Friends and Archmere contingents scoffing at the idea?

I haven't seen Caravel but absolutely Howard is a really good football team. They can beat anyone.

A lot of folks had them in the conversation after getting up on DMA first game of the season. Now they are further in the conversation. After all the dust settles at the end of the season, the favorite will most likely come from this district. No sure if downstate 2A district will have a true contender.

Purely based on football, leaving enrollment out , Archmere, Howard,DMA (based on the talk that this what they want lol) take them and move up. Move CR and Hodgson down and 3A would be competitive top to bottom.just my opinion

A lot of folks are high on Caravel but I am holding back on them until I see them play someone with a pulse which won't be until week 7 when they play Lake. Caravel really has a very weak schedule this year. Mainly due to WB and Delmar being down. CA should be 10-0 going into the playoffs but not battle tested

So Howard should have gone up to 3A in the first place?

Sorry anyone in 2A

In my opinion nobody in 2A should move up . Hodgson should stay up. Coach better or play better. Right now Hodgson and Penn are about the same. CR needs a new staff all around.

DMA stinks and Archmere wouldn't last in 3A and neither would Howard

Hodgson has the enrollment and athletes to be better. Coach better and play better. How much better of a program is Hodgson than WM Penn right now? Should Penn move down too? CR needs a complete change.

The historian In me wouldn’t let me type move Penn down, but your right they are the same as Hodgson. Some of these teams are bad,, Andy Reid couldn’t do anything with CR

It's already been approved that there will be 12 teams in 3A so someone is going up. Who? that remains to be seen

It may not be one of the top 2 or 3 teams in 2A but maybe a mid level team with high enrollment

It not about who won the championship but 50% winning percentage in class and 50 % enrollment with the rule no team can be forced up if they are not in the top half of enrollment.

That eliminates Archmere, Caravel, DMA from being forced up. Howard is right on the line and St Marks may be above the line. After that you look at higher enrollments like Delcastle, Charter or Mt Pleasant

Fact is some of the schools with the largestlargest enrollments are not good in football! I Howard gonna beat Hodgson, why wouldn’t Archmere last, they got tradition and momentum for their program. DMA sometimes you give people what they ask for.

For years Delcastle, Charter , Mount , was in flight A taking a beating because of enrollment. Everyone knows which teams can compete and who can’t enrollment aside.

Historian here as well and I wouldn't feel good about Penn moving down either.

Howard and Penn are the only two schools north of the Canal to never switch between Flight A and Flight B (or D1/D2 or 3A/2A now), just for the record.

I understand that some want to take enrollment out and focus on what happens on the field, but HVT and Penn and other public schools can vary enrollment however they want. Archmere is finite in enrollment and will not lower academic standards for athletics, or at least I hope they won't. Howard has stayed low in enrollment so that they can stay where they are (and were/D2-2A). That's by design.

It will be interesting to see where the 2022 enrolment numbers lands Howard. My guess is they will be just under the cut line for being forced up but I don't know for sure. Depends on Seaford numbers and what they do about Odessa. If they use the numbers for 2022 with 3 classes or if they estimate for the 4th class coming in next year.

Howard a legit City #1 now and not the butt of some covert SALS Alum weekly joke.
Wildcats would handle the SALS this year by 17 points.

True. The H. Fletcher Brown Bears!!! Not many of us left.

I was raised near Sallies across from Shortlidge Elementary.

I haven’t done my City rankings yet but the Wildcats are far & away #1 in the COW….

Ok, Howard moves in the rankings. #1 most likely. Right now, the others in the rankings are going to see each other along the way. St Marks has to deal Caravel?, Archmere has to take on DMA and Friends, not sure if there are any others from these two districts that overlap and any others from downstate. Anyone keeping track of points yet for seeding? That's what the tournament seeds are based, correct? Anyone see a team losing spots in the seeding due to lack of competition?

A bit early to look at seeding. Most teams have only played 1 or 2 district games. Gotta get in first.

Went back and checked thread from beginning of the year: if I counted right, Newark has been to 15 championship games, won 9. Nothing as of late. The school is an academic wasteland that used to be top notch and in a district that needs to be napalmed down to the ground and rebuilt. They were a contender every year for a solid 25 years to win a DI championship. They barely exist in D2 now. Not even sure how they have warranted articles in the NJ. Go to the soccer team and find a benchwarmer and see if he can kick in his off time. It's just not that hard.
Just an FYI. Newark’s PAT specialist is a sophomre girl who’s gone 7-9 on PAT’s this season. Unfortunately, she was not available yesterday. Was probably the difference in the ballgame.

So, with the new info about Newark's kicker out of action I will fess up to being a little quick with the kicking criticism. That is unfortunate. I do understand Newark is trying to get back to previous success, but the historians on this thread have to admit it is weird people celebrating an almost win in a smaller division when Newark celebrated Flight A and state championships starting in the late 70's through the 80's in D1. That's the era I grew up playing them and watching them win.

interesting factoid.. Tatnall is the only team that hasn't scored yet this year. They have been outscored 112-0 in 3 games.. 🤔 They play Dickinson this week on Thursday so the scoreless draught should end.

Next in the futile department from the same district Christiana has been outscored 142-6. They got FSMA this week so maybe their fortunes will change as well.

St. Mark's was also missing their regular placekicker. Jeremy Shannon is one of their best soccer players and had a game at the same time. They had a freshman, Matteo Bracalenti, do the kicking. He's listed on the roster as a running back and linebacker.

Nobody, should be talking about parades of any sorts. Lots going on in 2A. Look around the "Top teams" - all have players, out, injured, etc. The next 3 weeks will show us the whos, who in 2A. I still like in no particular order, Archmere, Caravel, Lake Forest, Howard, and St. Marks
