The Tribe continued its momentum to take a 9-2 edge during the fourth set, before the Blue Hens roared back with 10 consecutive points to go ahead. Delaware remained in front the remainder of the frame, and eventually put the set away with Hillman’s eighth kill of the game. But William & Mary used a four-point run to take a 7-3 lead in the fifth set, and the Blue Hens could not recover.
“We started well and fought back in the fourth set, but we didn’t take care of the ball well enough to earn the victory,” said Delaware head coach Bonnie Kenny. “The bottom line is that we have got to be able to serve and pass, and we didn’t do that tonight.”

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team captured the second set to even the match but could not continue the momentum as the Blue Hens dropped a 3-1 decision to James Madison Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Dukes, who snapped a two-match losing streak while improving to 9-12 overall and 4-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association, posted the victory by game scores of 25-22, 15-25, 25-17, 25-18. Delaware lost its second straight match as the Blue Hens fell to 11-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Classmate Jill Meyers also set her career-high in kills for the Blue Hens, as she slammed home 13 while Katie Hillman chipped in with 11 on the evening.
UD freshman Kali Funk dished out a season-best 37 assists and made 11 digs, while sophomore Ariel Shonk recorded a match-high 37 digs for the Blue Hens.
The first set was evenly matched as the squads were knotted at 19-19, before the Dukes used a five-point run to take control. UD held a late 20-15 edge before emphatically closing out the set with five consecutive points, including the clincher on a block by Hillman and Bryant.

“We ran our offense, passed well and sided out well in the second set, but could not sustain it,” said Delaware head coach Bonnie Kenny. “I thought we worked hard in game three, but we lost two long rallies and fizzled out from there. We have to become a tougher team and learn to fight through that.”

BOSTON -- After dropping the opening two sets the Blue Hens captured the third game, but the University of Delaware volleyball team could not complete the comeback and dropped a 3-1 verdict to Northeastern Sunday afternoon at Solomon Court.
The Huskies, who improved to 14-7 overall and 6-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, won by game scores of 25-10, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18. Delaware, which was looking to complete a weekend sweep of the northern schools following Friday’s 3-2 win at Hofstra, slipped to 11-10 overall and 3-4 in league play.
The Blue Hens were led by redshirt sophomore Chandler Bryant, who recorded a team-high 11 kills and paced Delaware with a .292 hitting percentage. Sophomore Katie Hillman added 10 kills on the afternoon, while Katie Hank and Jill Meyers each contributed seven.
Freshman Kali Funk, making her second consecutive start at the setter position, handed out 31 assists for the second straight match while making a career-high 12 digs to post a double-double. Ariel Shonk posted a team-high 21 digs for the Blue Hens, while Autumn Jenkins chipped in with eight.
Kelly Bacon paced the Huskies with 23 kills during the afternoon, while Jamie Bredahl added 13 while not making an attack error as she hit .591 during the contest.
Northeastern took the first four points of the opening set, and closed the frame with a 13-2 run to easily take a one-set lead. The Blue Hens were down just 12-11 midway through the second game, but again the Huskies pulled away with a 13-5 spurt to go up two sets.
The teams were knotted at 18-18 during the third set, but Delaware took the next three points and eventually put the set away on a kill by Hank. However Northeastern jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the fourth set and was never really threatened from there.
“I was very disappointed in our start today,” Delaware head coach Bonnie Kenny commented. “Coming off a big win on Friday I was hoping we could build on it, but we cannot start any match by spotting a team two games before we decide to play. Our serve receive kept us out of system the entire match and we had no answer for CAA Player of the Year candidate Bacon.”
Match Notes:
? The Huskies won their seventh consecutive match
? Northeastern posted its second 3-1 win over UD this season
? Bryant reached double figures in kills for third time in four contests
? Hillman has posted double digs kills in six consecutive matches
? Shonk recorded her fourth consecutive match of at least 20 digs

Dave Brock University of Delaware Football Coach: It's hard to win then it should be I was very pleased for the opportunity along with our players with another tail of paths as we didn't play well in the second half part of that was my fault that the game was in hand but not to take any chances on defense but we got some good breaks that the game dictated as we went for it on 4th down and it was disappointing that we have to go for the play on 4th and 2 and very hard for our squad to go 2-0."
"Trent did a good job and working with the teammates that have to go week in and week out along with having their ways these guys made a decision the entire time for the run we are going to create a 1 on 1 on the outside and he did a great job at managing at making decisions and his throwing is the type of plays that we have scored on so fast and wore Delaware State down when the run game hasn't shown up today and I was disappointing but we have to work on that in practice."
For the Hornets at 0-1 scored their touchdowns in the second and third quarters on 2 Cory Murphy passes of 4 and 7 yards to Malik Golson as he had 30 completions out of 45 attempts for 302 yards, one in the fourth quarter as Esiyah Obado's 18 yard fumble recovery.
