Was anybody out there at this game?! Those who were saw an immediate classic. 92 points scored, amazing comebacks by both teams, great clutch plays by both, freak plays, beautiful execution, classic mistakes, and more. Both teams played their hearts out and left it all on the field. Some really good players on both teams, including both QB's. Tatnall led 17-6 in the first Q. IR came back to take the lead at the half 21-17. IR then opened the 2nd half with a great drive and a TD to go up 28-17. On Tatnall's next possession a D-end for IR deflected a pass, caught it, and rumbled about 30 yards for a TD. Now 35-17 IR, midway through the 3rd Q. Looked like it was going to be a blowout. But Tat went on a long TD drive to make it 35-24. IR then proceeded to fumble on 3 consecutive plays (including 2 KO returns) and Tat scored 3 TD's in about 5 minutes. Now 45-35, Tatnall leading, midway 4th Q. IR proceeds to drive and score, but they missed the PAT. 45-41, Tat, with about 5 minutes left. IR then stops Tat on a 4th down in IR territory. A first down would have ended the drama. IR proceeds to drive down the field and on 4th down with a little over a minute left, they executed a perfect hook-and-lateral for the go-ahead TD. Now 47-45, IR, with about a minute and a half left. IR squib kicks the KO and Tat proceeds to drive very close to field goal range. On 4th and 2 with 19 seconds left, Tat runs a dive play and IR stuffs it. Game over, IR 47 - Tatnall 45. What a great high school title game. Hats off to both teams and all the coaches for giving all of us a real Thanksgiving treat! Congrats to IR on the state title and to Tatnall for a tremendous effort!
