Are you one of the school girls jumping on here to gossip before just before the playoffs? ;)
We will see Friday night if those two #7 and #50 come out to play..we have all heard these rumors before and it probably doesn't matter because Woodbridge just seems to pop and play every year and they always have a nice pipeline of younger talent who don't seem to miss a beat!

If true which no one will know until game time.. #50 would be a huge loss.. not only as the MLB but also the starting center. QB of the O-line and D. Both the other centers are sophomores. .. Doesn't really matter which Stones it is .. Ricky Kane will fill that void no problem

I heard the entire Caravel team joined a cult, took a vow of non-violence and are refusing to play on Friday. That could have a big impact on the game! ;)

It would be awful for those kids to be disqualified for academic insufficiency. I have always thought that Varsity athletes in DE who perform well academically should be given equal accolades as the All State/All Conference athletes. There is something to be said for a kid who can balance the two.

Ducky, that is a cut above some of the first time posts we have been getting lately.

The term Student Athlete must stand for something! And in that order.

I believe that Academic All-State recognition is given for most sports. I know it is for wrestling. Of course, recognition is nowhere near that given for athletic achievements.

Ethan potter doesn’t need to hit. Matter of fact the kid so fast only thing that he'll be hitting is the ground running in the endzone.

DIFCA does have an Academic All-State award for football. I agree it isn't given much fan fare..and maybe should get more. My Son seemed pretty proud of it though. Maybe if it had an athletic performance qualifier other than getting a Varsity Letter it might have more juice but when a third of the team is getting the award and a good amount of non starters or even guys that barely play at all on Varsity then it's eehh nice and something to applaud but not so prestigious. A weighted 3.75 GPA (not sure what weighted means) is great for any kid and in some schools a very hard mark to get so it is a great accomplishment IMO just doesn't hold much fan fare among the players it seems.

DIFCA
I. Academic All-State
a. Criteria
i. Varsity Letter Winner for that current season (1st Marking Period)
ii. Weighted 3.75 GPA or higher
iii. Signed by counselor, due Thursday, December 4.
iv. The e-mail from the counselor will serve as verification

If a student is taking AP-level or other classes that are more difficult than the average class, the grade-point average is weighted. So instead of an A being worth 4 points, it may be 4.2.

Watkins health, Mooney magic, Yelbert steps up in big moments and is one of the best players in state when he is giving it his all, and Healy is a two way beast. Not to mention Danny Stradley leading the best offensive line in the state. All these guys are gamers and will make big plays in the big games.
Although anything's possible (re Sallies vs M'town in last year's playoffs) based upon the half dozen games I saw this year Sallies does not look like a championship caliber team. Watkins is nowhere near 100% but the single biggest issue I see is team speed, or lack of it. Being a Big S grad I hope the boys prove me wrong but....
