With Maryland expanding the number of teams making the playoffs and shortening their regular season from 10 games to 9 (https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/spo...cle_a1f90e34-6bb7-11e9-98e4-57c47b3eee01.html), it makes it harder for any Delaware team playing a Maryland team to get bonus points. A Maryland team will have to go undefeated for a Delaware team to get +2 bonus points. and at least 7 and 2 for +1 bonus point.

From https://www.doe.k12.de.us/cms/lib/D...in/498/Fall Tournament Manual 2019 9-7-19.pdf:

3. One point is awarded for each opponent that won seven (7) or eight (8) games during their regular season regardless of which team won.

4. An additional point is awarded for each opponent that won nine (9) or ten (10) games during their regular season regardless of which team won.

Not a complaint as I don't see any way around it, just an observation.

SO your saying you get 2 pts if a team wins 8 but only if that team has nine games?

No, I don't think the bonus point rules make any allowance for how many games a team plays, just how many they win in the regular season.

So an 8 and 1 team would only be worth 1 bonus point unless there is another DIAA rule I'm not aware of.

Titanium nothing has changed you get 1 for a 7 win teams and 2 for 9 but yeah scheduling a Maryland team decreases your odds for BP's

there is a new change though you cant schedule a late change ..let 's call it the St Marks v Oxford rule or the CA vs Concord rule lol

All varsity football schedules will ‘lock down’ on October 1, 2019.

What changed this year is Maryland only playing a 9 game regular season schedule instead of a 10 game one. As I said, it makes it harder to get bonus points for games against Maryland teams, but it is what it is.

Only the public schools the privates still play 10 or more but of course only the first 10 count

for MD publics the DIAA should count the first round week 10.. I am guessing they will.... its 10 games doesnt matter if its play offs or not and in Md its really a regional game to move on

This has been discussed years ago. It’s just the “regular” season. DIAA doesn’t include the first round of any states playoffs given it is their 10th game. So titanium is spot on with his assumption. Any DE team playing a MD team with a 9 game schedule l, that said team would have to go undefeated in their 9 games to get the 2 bonus points. If they went 8-1 the DE team is shit out of luck if they want that extra point.

If they go 8-1 in the MD regular season but win their first round game in the playoffs that game wouldn’t count towards bonus points. It sucks but it is what it is

I understand the rule HS God if anyone does I do.. I have been studying them for 10 years lol I was just suggesting they may or should change them.

It’s cool. I guess I didn’t really read the context behind your post. My initial thought was you were saying they did change it. If they did, or are, it won’t apply for this school year seeing how classes has already begun

Reading over the "DIAA Fall Sports Tournament Manual 2019" (https://www.doe.k12.de.us/cms/lib/DE01922744/Centricity/Domain/348/Fall Tournament Manual 2019 9-7-19.pdf) again makes me question as to whether or not playoff/tournament games count when determine bonus points.

Item 5, Section B.2 below states that the 10 regular season games "may include playoff or tournament games", while Item 5, Section C.2 and C.3 specifically state "games during their regular season".

It's a small thing and any team depending on one point to qualify for the playoffs probably shouldn't be in the tournament anyway, but I'm curious as to how the rule is actually applied.

Item 5. Tournament Seeding

A. Team Report
1. The last competition date for football is Saturday, November 9, 2019. It is the school’s responsibility to verify that all results listed on their team’s website4sports page are accurate and complete by midnight on the last date of competition [November 9, 2019] or the team may not be considered for the tournament .
B. Out of State Opponents:
1. A member of the Committee will be responsible for contacting the out-of-state opponents of each school in contention for a tournament berth and obtaining their state Benchmark date enrollment. Schools that play out-of-state opponents need to send that school’s contact information to the Football Chairperson, Jim Comegys, by September 30, 2019. (james.comegys@colonial.k12.de.us)
2. For out-of-state opponents, the first 10 regular season games that they play in the 2019 season will constitute their 10 game schedule for the purposes of their final record. This may include playoff or tournament games.
3. Any out-of-state opponent whose building houses grades 9-12 (boys and girls) and whose enrollment on September 30, 2019 is equal to or exceeds the 1045 enrollment number (boys and girls in grades 9-12) will be classified as Division I. All other out-of-state opponents whose building houses grades 9-12 will be classified as Division II. This is in effect for school years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.
4. A single gender, out-of-state opponent will be classified by doubling their enrollment as of September 30, 2019. If the figure when doubled is equal to or greater than 1045 that school is classified as Division I. Schools with a doubled enrollment count less than 1045 will be classified as Division II. 5. Regardless of when a contract is/was signed the September 30, 2019 enrollment count will be used to determine classification for all schools, in state or out of state.

C. Index Calculation
1. A school’s point index is determined by adding together the total number of points accumulated and then dividing by the number of games played.
2. Points are awarded for wins, ties and losses as follows:

Game Result-Division I Opponent-Division II Opponent
Win-6-4
Tie-3-2
Loss-1-0

3. One point is awarded for each opponent that won seven (7) or eight (8) games during their regular season regardless of which team won.
4. An additional point is awarded for each opponent that won nine (9) or ten (10) games during their regular season regardless of which team won.

I think its pretty clear.. If you play an OOS team that only plays 9 reg season game then the 10th game can be a play-off. This as long as the play games after not our reg season ends. Which in the case of the Md teams it wouldn't be it would be the same week as our tenth games.

The first is for the OOS teams that play more than 10 reg season games.. they could simplify it and just say only the first 10 games count
