Can the game grow in Delaware or are we destined to continue the path of mediocrity

This question i pose to those who love the game and want to see kids get better on and off the court. I have always held the position that delaware sports are over regulated. Not that I don't believe in strict standards but I think in the interest of trying hard to maintain fairness we have overstepped and killed development to the point where many of our talented kids leave.

Few areas that can make immediate improvement: 1. Better academic support 2. Loosen gym time and coaches contact restrictions 3. Increase transfer rule from 1 to 2 times maximum allow 4. Shot clock 5. Better training for officials, change officiating rules to eliminate soft touch fouls.

mediocrity is in the eye of the beholder.

of only moderate quality; not very good.

If I see Delaware is mediocre then my kid will be sent out of DE. If I see DE as great then I will leave my kid in DE.

Its clear that our talented ones have left DE because DE gets no respect nationally... Some have left and its worked out but most have left and nothing changed from it.

Change starts at the top and growth isn't the focus, it's always about the money around here. 1. They sacrifice academics because of cost, so don't look for support there. 2. You can get gym time if you have the money. 3. transfer rule LOL all that generates is headaches and cost money. 4. Cost money doesn't make money 5. Glad you saved that for last. Smh... now you know that cost money.

Here's my suggestion to making Delaware basketball respectful. 1. Make your child do his homework and keep his grades up. Parenting 101 2. The park is free... Get good enough there and gym time will come later for free 3. Be loyal and keep working if a coach wants to win and you can help them do that no need to transfer you'll get on the floor. 4. Practice with a shot clock using your scoreboard and then your team will play uptempo game necessary to prepare players for next level 5. Officials gone be officials with or without more training...

U sound like me 10 years ago, are u new to Delaware, if so give it some time, u will learn that the system here is broken

What I will say is the hard off season rules for player-coach participation hinder a lot of kids growth. Kids that lack resources could really benefit from a coach that can get their hands on them. Pick up basketball nowadays doesn't make these kids any better. If we loosen the off season rules I think we see growth in our athletes.

Are you asking that high school coaches be able to train there teams during the off-season. If so then there will be an unfair advantage for full-time coaches over the part-time ones. Most are just coaching for an extra bump on there school checks. There not opening gym on their days off, the job doesn't pay enough for all that.

Oh and just so you know I wasn't talking about pick-up at the park. We both know that doesn't help growth. Was talking about FREE drills and skills sessions.

How would you determine the unfair advantage? And if a coach doesn't desire to better their program through a little hard work and sacrifice then they shouldn't be coaching. I think when we look at other states models we see sports are made a priority and that's why kids excel. For some reason we say academics are a priority here in DE yet we lose kids to bad grades constantly. There are some fundamental things that can change to affect these processes

Unfortunately it's not my determination its the states perspective of fairness. Im with you 100% about hard work and sacrifice. Respectfully lets look at the coaches downstate and think of their qualifications. 1. Work at the school 2. Work at the school 3. work at the school. Now don't get me wrong these guys do the best they can but they have no winning expectations placed upon them. They just have to be good yes men and all is well.

Regarding academics well that's horrible and not the focus at all as kids can play with D averages... Fundamental changes are you serious. Just think of it this way, when your house has a gas odor in it and your there you dont even smell it, it takes someone from outside to come in and advise you of the odor. So there it is.

Oh and just so you know the grass always looks greener on the other side, but my friends are complaining about there schools in Jersey as well.
