The consensus on the forum is that DIAA is the problem. The root cause of pretty much everything wrong with DE basketball, aka "waist land!". Transfers, dormant off season, and the overall lack of competitiveness compared to other states. Lets do something about it. Start a petition, flood emails to DIAA board members, contact govt officials? I dont have the answerers but I propose we put some energy to affect change rather than just complain. Anyone have any constructive ideas? Call to action!!!

New director, plus Stan Waterman named to the board this year is a step in the right direction. Ultimately it comes down to institutions which are heavily favored over families when decisions are made. U can make tremendous change by extending the transfer rule to 2. After freshmen year if they don't transfer u have 1 more opportunity. If a kid leaves the state & returns they should not be penalized if elligibility still remains. Allow coaches to develop kids if they choose in off-season. In most states talent moves to quality. Let the schools & coaches willing to put in the work get the talent. In that environment a kid like Cale could join up with other talented kids & coaches could schedule tough out of state comp. We could make some noise nationally & at slam dunk at the beach. People will say well junkie, ain't about that it's about education. My response is teaching or allowing kids to suck in academics or sports is poor education. High school varsity teams should be highly competitive, everyone cannot make the cut. Coaching is the same. Lets stop protecting bad schools and coaches. Lastly for the coaches who say it's not their responsibility to check grades or conduct study hall u need to reconsider working with Kids.

Its not the DIAA.. Rules changes get submitted from the Coaches Associations then the AD Association has to approve them.. DIAA just enforces the rules they come up with

For example a couple years ago DIFCA (the football coaches association) wanted to start football a week earlier as to coincide with neighboring states. They submitted the change but the AD association shot it down.. Most likely because it would interfere with their summer vacation.. I am also guessing they would want more pay and most public schools couldnt go for that lol

I'm sure AD's and coaches historically presented rule change requests, however I did not notice any language restricting others from formally or informally proposing rule changes. I'm sure many coaches and AD's would rather keep basketball the way it is and not feel the pressure to change, i.e. work harder. Hate to settle for mediocrocy...

  • Proposed revisions of the DIAA Rules and Regulations must be submitted to the Executive Director. They are reviewed by the Rules and Regulations Committee and forwarded to the Board of Directors for an initial reading. The proposed changes which receive a favorable vote are then presented to the member schools for written comment and discussion at the Annual Membership Meeting. The Board of Directors reviews the proposed changes for a second time taking into consideration the comments of the member schools. The proposals which receive a second favorable vote are forwarded to the Secretary of Education who then submits them to the State Board of Education for final approval in accordance with the Administrative Procedures Act.

Just want make sure I have this straight: the Board of Directors makes the final decision after consulting with the AD's? I know they weigh the AD's opinions heavily, but the Board of Directors make the final decision right? So we can stop putting it back on the member schools why nothing gets changed right?

Good stuff!

FYI: Next Annual meeting per DIAA website:

Thursday, January 19, 2017 8:00 a.m. Collette Education Center Annual Meeting

Enough time to start lobbying AD's and coaches.

Probably! Why not give the board, ADs, and coaches some help? Its possible they dont know what they dont know. Maybe they just dont know what other states are doing...Perhaps our friend 'junkie' can draft some proposed changes, suggestions, and ideas! Propose them directly to the board?
