i think Smyrna's too big. Caravel has a good backcourt but are just to small. They play with a lot of heart but only have two kids that stand out to me, Koy and Trevon. And the way Smyrna shut down Rawls tonight I give them this one by 15. I think SG and Mryn woukd beat CA. Nothing against them, they've had a great tournament and turned a lot of heads so far.

This is the biggest mismatch maybe ever in a final game. At least any I can remember. I hope this is decent game and congratulate Caravel but I don't see them having any chance.

BB..2015 DIAA Boys Final ..mismatch a 10-10 regular season Salesianum team played a 19-1 regular season Polytech team. How was that for a mismatch?

It wasn't much of a mismatch at all even w/ Sallies' record being 10-10 they were the higher seed at #6 while Polytech was #8 so one could argue that Sallies was the actual favorite. Sallies played a much tougher schedule that year & had the POY coming off of a chip the previous year.

Way to try to bring some attention back to Sallies though.

Sallies and Polytech wasn't a mis match at all. Sallies plays a tough schedule every year preparing them for the tourney. Polytech takes whatever they can get through the regular season. That was a very good game though.

Sallies had Donte...and play a NATIONAL Schedule that's why they went 10-10. Pretty sure they were undefeated or maybe 1 loss in the state of DE. They played St. Vincent's that year at Slam Dunk lol
Polytech was a great team, Mallory and Gray but not enough for Sallies.

Sallies lost to Sanford, Smyrna, Howard, Concord, St E's and Mount that year but hey who cares they still won the chip
Oh wow, guess I should have went back and looked! Good call coach ahha
But yeah they knew when to turn it on and Donte was unstoppable!

I did not mention this to crank up a Salesianum Pep Rally. coachquil has got the facts and that is good stuff.

My response was to Briggs Beall. I was thinking that his sentiment that the finals between Smyrna and Caravel was the biggest mismatch ever was overstated.
( I have only seen 3 DE HS Bball games this year so my knowledge of this year is limited)

Before the 1971 championship game I thought Milford and PS DuPont was the greatest mismatch ever and yet Milford won. ( I know that was 47 years ago...)

This year the way Delaware high school basketball was I don't see much difference between Smyrna at #5 and Caravel at #19. They could give them a game, yeah Smyrna has the size but interested to see what Caravel does to counter it.

I like Smyrna by a lot & that's no disrespect to Caravel but there will be a number of mismatches in this one. Caravel will have to hope that Parker is really on but if he has an off night it could get ugly.

If Caravel gets ahead they may slow it down to get Smyrna out of that zone. Pull the big guy away from the basket. Take advantage of some pick and rolls against the big guy. Can't see them winning any other way.

Smyrna actually played man last night the entire game. I would have to think that they will do the same tomorrow w/ Hinson-Purnell harassing Parker. Even w/ them playing man the big man for the other team would have to make him come out of the middle by hitting perimeter shots cuz he stills sags to the middle playing help defense to protect the rim. No need for him to even leave the paint on defense honestly.

Seedlings aside...I can compare this to 2007 final between Sanford and Christiana.

Christiana was the #1 seed, Sanford #3. But the size difference between them was similar to this year.

Christiana dominated from the tip and won 67-41. I think it was Stan's first loss in a final.

I remember that game, Milford had a guy named John Waples- their tallest man at 6' but he could sky

There isn't much out there on that team or game. This looks like resolution honoring them:

I was at the 1971 Championship game at the old fieldhouse. Most people thought PS would win by 15-20 points. In the beginning of game Vernon Peake who is like 6' 6" comes down the baseline and places the ball on the backboard about 18" above the basket. That was like his unstoppable move. Just as the ball hits the backboard John Waples hand is also on the ball. It was a clean block. Waples blocked the ball simultaneous with Peake putting it on the Bb. The place erupted. Who the hell was this kid who could elevate like that? PS was stunned and panicked. I think Milford won by 20.

Milford won by 10. They were extremely well coached by Dan McGuinnis (sp?). They beat Wilmington High in that tourney too. They were a team of under 6- footers who play solid ball and made very few mistakes.
