You have no Clue Coach of the year does not always go to the Champion. Hodgson won back to back he never won the award. Laurel did not win and they he won it the hear he lost by 40. The Champion is not always the best Coach. Look at what they did to get there team to were there team finished. So Smyrna has the most talent if he win the Championship is he the best coach this year???????

So what are you saying then? Manlove has been there awhile and his teams have always been bad, undisciplined and not well coached.. This year he has some talent to overcome those issues and plays a weak schedule and all of a sudden he is a great coach? sorry its a no in my book.. if he was a great coach it would have shown before being loaded with seniors and talent,, even so Woodbridge isn't winning anything they arent that good .. JMHO

Don't care who is the coach if they don't have talent they won't win. It's that simple.
'It is funny a coach coaches bad teams for years then all of a sudden they get some talent one year and make a run then they are coach of the year lol ,,what about all the years they stunk?

How about we make a case for Coach Reed at Caravel? Lost his only QB 1st game and had to develop a 150 lbs 13 yo freshman and play a very tough schedule.. Has his team in the play offs and might be a favorite.. Before all you ECAravel folks chime in the best player for CA is a CA kid Larkins

By far I'm not a Manlove fan and I agree with what some of what your saying but in his defense he was losing his best players to Tech. He couldn't keep his players home. No one wins without talent no even Coach K (Duke).

WB has built a new school and as a result kids are beginning to stay home. The result is PRIDE in the community and school spirit.

That is a good thing

What Coach Reed has done this year is INCREDIBLE. I picked Caravel to play WB in the chip from jump street. After they lost Barker I threw them away. They physically beat up a big Cape team. Was VERY impressed.

I would typically agree but the best team they beat was Milford and Milford is well Milford
Why does everyone sleep on Friends? I understand their schedule leaves a lot to be desired, but they're going to win 9 games and be a team opponents don't want to see in the first round - just ask Lake Forest or Howard back in 2008.

I don't disagree lol. I would like to think Friends is a good team and beating a school like Dover is always good for such a small school.

Manlove and WB administration both need to be applauded. They went through some tough times. Took some brutal beat downs. They could have pulled thr plug and parted ways (like most schools do now days) but they stayed the course and it's paying off. They recorded 1st playoff win in school history and are on course for a 10-0 finish. Great job

Fiends plays solid disciplined football. They don't have the athletes which is what most folks focus on. They will do what they do and beat average teams with poor coaching but they will lose to teams with superior talent

Disagree. I think Friends is very well coached. They execute and play hard for their Coach. They don't have the athletes that other teams have but being well coached allows them to stay in the game and sometimes pull the upset. They are VILLANOVA/Wisconsin/Virginia basketball (sorry for ball references lol)

Pretty good analogy with the basketball schools. I put Friends behind WB, Glasgow, St.G and Caravel. They beat the rest of D2 IMO.

Unpopular opinion coming from me - I'd like to see them against DMA because DMA can't get away with some of the mistakes they've been lucky to avoid against a team like Friends.

Yep! Dead on.

So let me get this straight. Ed Manlove takes over arguably the worst football program in the state. One that I can only ever remember winning the Henlopen South once in its history. (I want to say it has happened at least another time, but I sure can't remember it if it did.) This will be the third time in the last four seasons that his team has reached the playoffs. Those previous two teams each won a playoff game before losing to St. Georges, which totally outmanned them. In the most recent loss to St. Georges, Woodbridge was right there until the end... And yet some of you people are calling him a bad coach? Seems pretty idiotic to me.

Gotta agree. Woodbridge was awful for YEARS, kinda like what Seaford is now and aside from that one tourney appearance in '99, this is probably the best team in that school's history. Players are really good yes, but the coach has to get some credit for that.

Now there's no need to insult any old Raider team by comparing them to today's disaster that is Seaford - things have certainly been bad in the past, but not THAT bad for that long. You are correct that up to now the '99 team was by far the best in school history - 10-0, won the only conference title, 1st playoff appearance. This group of seniors is the only class to ever make the playoffs 3 out of 4 years, much less have actually won games. Yes, a lot of it is about having and keeping talent (haven't lost a valuable freshman to Tech in the last 2 years), but is also about building a winning culture and bringing out positive attributes in the players. Manlove is blessed to have good assistants, many with deep community ties that help create that culture but the man is obviously doing something right. I'm sure he'd rather win a state title than coach of the year.

HCS that is a well thought out and articulate post.. I have made my position on the coach clear in previous posts and don't need to rehash it.. I will try and look at it from a fresh perspective going forward but I just dont like cry babies... but I will try

There are a great many young coaches on the Woodbrige staff. Both enthusiastic and smart. There's a real good vibe coming from over there.

I think Coach Reed from Caravedl has done a great job. Anyone who losses his starting QB and can keep it together Kudos to him. Woodbridge I don't know there Coach but the teams is the best in Div II at the moment.

Name you top 5 Coaches in Each Div I and II not in any order just who are teh tops in your opinion??

Div I - Delpercio, Dooley, Dinardo, Jude, ???

Div II - Wilson, Maull, Tatersall, Hearn, ???

I like Dooley.
1. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Penn
2. The team was a complete mess week 1 and could have easily dropped that game to StG.
3. He recognized that his offense wasn't going to work so he went back to the drawing board and figured it out.
4. After week one I thought they would go 6-4.
