Hearing St. Elizabeth's just bought St Marks.. Also its unsure if St Marks will close or how it pans out if St E's moves there or if they lease it to DMA or how it will shake out.. Hopefully it merges..stay tuned
@RR
one of my posse told me they are going to make it into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center ... go figure
Doesn't sit well at all... I have no idea who is responsible or any of the politics but St Marks was run into ground and its shameful..
HAHA... One of the guys at 7v7 last night whom I regard as a solid source but will remain nameless broke the storyRooster, what is the source of this story? The word's greatest newspaper, "The Urinal" has nada on this.

No truth to the St. Marks/St.E's merger. St. Thomas More is on the chopping block. Last year for them.
I don't know is the honest answer. They have a different guy calling the 7on7 offense but they have done that before. I haven't talked to Coach to ask. The other rumored new OC didn't happen
Regardless of whether or not there is any truth to this.....a few things that certainly would be related to this, are all fact:
1- Nobody can keep a secret like the Church/Diocese.
2- The administration has to be held accountable.
3- RR has some good sources and has been in front of several stories before.
4- There have been many rumors for over 4 years now. Too many!
Both schools have went out of their way to squash any and all rumors and that makes sense. I think St. Marks is on their 3rd principal in past 5-6 years?? Maybe they need to remove some other parts of the core admin and keep a principal.

Believe me this is one of those stories I hope is bogus. I don't think anyone wants it to be true even the haters.
So I just got around to looking at some of the numbers on this and they are pretty astounding. I'm sure you guys close to St. Mark's may have known this, but their numbers are really bad. The 2012 count had them at 1201 students. The count last year was 657.
Saint E's has actually grown a bit over that same time period going from 349 in 2012 to 384 last year.
When they see numbers like this, the Diocese will not sit still for long. I would suspect a merger is inevitable.
As for Saint Thomas More, they are at 168, down from 220 in 2012. They have been advertising pretty hard on the radio down here, so I suspect this might be a make or break year.
I respectfully have to disagree. With Saint Mark's losing almost half their enrollment in just three years, there is a big problem. Someone needs to come up with a viable plan real quick, because they must be bleeding money profusely.Merging a Diocese school and Parish school is akin to merging a Charter and Traditional school. It doesn't work. Both schools are viable and successful, except to those who begin sentences with, "I remember when..."
Look over there.... Is that a dead horse???

I agree things have changed a lot over the years. I had friends jump to St. Marks in the "White Flight" of deseg. days. When I taught down state and coached wrestling at Woodbridge, the days of wrestling dominance were unmatched, till C.R. took over, and now Smyrna.I respectfully have to disagree. St. E's and Padua are both directly connected and supported by parishioners at the respective churches. Merging Holy Rosary and St. Helena's into Pope ?? was done by the two church parishes. St. Edmonds couldn't go to SMM, or IHM when they were struggling.St Marks and St E's are both Diocese schools

1000 would be a great number to get to. I really hope they can stay afloat.I agree things have changed a lot over the years. I had friends jump to St. Marks in the "White Flight" of deseg. days. The school is on solid ground. Will the glory days of 1600 kids return? Was it all that great then? Lots of problem then with that many kids. Personally, I think 1000 kids is optimum.
State Championships? They will return especially when DIAA puts in their 3 tiered division plan(not a fan). Competitive in athletics? Yes, just bite the bullet and drop Sallies football. They have one of the hardest field hockey schedules in the state.
If you have time, dig into the test scores and where the kids go on to for college. That's where the value is....
No argument on #1 & #3. Appears #2 has been addressed and the Principal has hit the ground running. #4 can be explained simply by reading the many posts of babble on theses boards. Some people think they know so much, they can't even figure out they know nothing.
Entertaining though....
The rise of the selective charter/magnet schools have hurt public and now has hurt St. Marks. Why pay when I can go to Wilm Charter, Newark Charter, Conrad, etc
Right or wrong precieved sports politics is an issue too.
