Wendell Smallwood (Red Lion/ECA) has declared early for the NFL draft after leading the Big 12 in rushing and converting a third and 22 which lead to a David Sills winning TD catch in a thriller 43-42 WVU over ASU in the Cactus Bowl. Tough hit for WVU as they were looking to basically return the whole offense.. but you have to strike when the iron is hot.. good luck Wendell...

Good luck to him but I'm not sure that's a wise decision on his part. Hope it works out.

I'm a WVU guy and have watched virtually every game he's played in college, if not all of them. I think he's going to be a good pro. He reminds me of Leveon Bell for the Steelers. Kid is a hell of a back and a hell of a receiver. I'm sad to see him go because he would have had a huge year next year if he stayed (led te Big 12 in rushing this year). But I understand. He probably does not want to risk injury and another year of pounding when he could be earning.

CBS has him projected as the 16th best RB (I disagree through my old gold and blue glasses) and going in the 5th or 6th round.

Fog I think the only knock on him is size and break away speed as like you said he is solid in all facets of the position.. From what I am reading the combine is going to be real important for him and his stock could rise if he nails a fast 40 time.. so I am sure he is on that with the trainers..

Interesting stay from the home board: Wendell tied for tops in the nation for most carries over 10 yards with 59! Tied Fornette and Derek Henry.

Just a follow up... Smallwood hit the number he needed.. Ran a 4.46 40 at the combine...

3-5.... being looked at as a 3rd down back type who can play that role right away with potential to be every down . size is the only issue... ..

The Eagles got a hell of a player in the 5th round. Wendell is very versatile - he can also line up in the slot and even lined up out wide for the Mountaineers last year. He has great hands and runs very hard. He is rarely brought down on first contact. I'm happy for him that he gets to play in front of his friends and relatives and will be so close to home.
