The DSC has enough team for a football conference so that mean one of these teams will be in the B tournament every year per auto bid.. interesting.. makes it a little tougher for the at large bids

DMA
Archmere
Conrad
Red Lion
Charter
1st State Military

not sure it will make a huge difference as lately DMA or Archmere have gotten in on points anyway but there could be a year where their auto bid bumps someone who has more points

No, Charter is a D-1 school, aren't they?

True....playing in that conference will not get Charter a lot of tournament points but I guess that is not an issue.
Honestly, in D-2 I don't really see a need for the automatic bid. Since they upped the number of teams to 8, I can't see a division winner not making it. I wonder when the last time a division winner finished lower than 7-3.

I agree with you. No need for the automatic bid. Besides DMA and Archmere will be the only 2 teams that win that conference IMO.

forgot about Charter being D1 .. That may be the chink in the Armour for DSC's bid to become a DIAA football conference and a auto bid.. To my knowledge there has never been a conference that has had both D1 and D2 teams in it..

Wonder if the Archmere AD though of that?

“It’s the compilation of the four schools that are coming in that make it a very interesting conference,” said Archmere athletic director Dave Oswinkle, who doubles as president of the Diamond State Conference. “We’re going to be able to petition DIAA that we have enough teams for a football conference, and in all other sports it will give us a chance to earn automatic bids to state tournaments

I think the first couple of years it won't matter much because Caravel and St. E are good NC schools, Henlopen South always has a solid crop of tourney teams and Flight B usually sends its best team every year. The Independent Conference might have a beef in the interim, but for now, only DMA and Archmere will probably contend for tourney spots.

There are more charters coming too. I heard DSU might be testing the waters with a charter of their own and they plan on having athletics.

DSU charter has been up and running for a couple of years. The just started to field a JV only basketball team this year. I don't see them ever having a football team numbers are just not there.

Agree, but I heard they still want to join the Henlopen. Basketball etc...Much like Sussex Academy.

Hearing rumors about an Odyssey Charter/Sills connection? Cranking up a football program? Looking for games?

Not possible. As long as Cab is the same building and those kids play sports, Charter will have a D-1 enrollment, which kinda makes leaving Flight A foolish for them and a Godsend for DMA and Archmere for points purposes.

Charter will always be D1 like you said. It's Godsend for any D2 that plays them for the points purposes.

Charter is moving to the Diamond state conference effective next year.
Yes, as a D-1 team. Free points for all. Imagine three Diamond State Conference teams making the playoffs next year.. It's is more likely to happen, than not.

I highly doubt that. Only one and 2 at the max will make it between Archmere, DMA, or Conrad and I'd say that would be Archmere and maybe DMA. The Henlopen South will have 2 teams Woodbridge and Delmar, then Caravel and St. Marks will probably make it, Flight B will have Howard and Glasgow, then 1 from the Independent Conference, and 1 from the Diamond State. That rounds out your 8 teams.

With Conrad, DMA and Arch all getting an automatic six points, plus bonus points from playing .500 teams, I believe 3 can get in. You are looking at 6-4 for the cut off.

Oh yeah I do agree that it's a possibility but I just doubt that all 3 would get in because the other D2 schools that plays Charter are A.I. Dupont, Wilmington Friends, Tatnall, and Tower Hill. IMO I think A.I., Friends, and Tatnall will all have better records then Conrad and DMA this year. DMA loses all of their playmakers which won't be easy to replace in 1 year.
