DII Playoff seeding predictions

Friends and Tower immediately comes to mind, as does Woodbridge and Delmar.

if Friends wins, they stay at the 3rd seed and Tower stays at 6, which of course means they'll see each other in the first round for the 2nd year in a row - womp.

If Tower wins, they move up to 3 and Friends goes down to 5, which would push Howard down to the 6th seed.

If Delmar wins, Woodbridge would be the 8th seed and DMA with a win over Conrad would be the 7 seed.

Woodbridge wins and they become the 6th seed and Tower Hill would fall to 8th. Delmar will be the 2nd seed regardless.

Archmere is locked in at 4 as long as they beat FSMA. Howard can do no worse than 6th with a win over Glasgow. A loss drops them down to the 7th spot.

AI's set at number 1, unless they lose to Dickinson.

It's been like this since the tournament expanded to 8 teams. WAY too many variables. I guess if nothing else, gives the kids something to play for and us something to talk about.

Speaking of the expansion....I remember a lot of us were on the edge about it being 8 teams. How does everyone feel about it now? There's talk on here that team A or Team B doesn't deserve to be in it, if you take away the 8 seeds and back to 6th wouldn't that negate the debate? Or just bring more controversy?

Probably more controversy because if DMA or Woodbridge missed out this year with Tower Hill getting in with that schedule, all hell would've broken loose. As excessive as the top 2 seeds being forced to play opening weekend is, it rarely affects them.

Friends and Tower both can't win because they play each other.

I missed that ReturnOfTheGate, thanks. So Delmar could be as low as 5th if they lose the tiebreakers to Howard, as the first tiebreaker is:

The team whose opponents have the most victories in regular season play will qualify for the playoffs.

And Howard's opponents currently have 44 wins while Delmar's have 40.

No offense to DMA but you are saying “all hell would break loose if they didn’t make it” intrigues me. Yes tower hills schedule is weak but DMA lost to a currently 5-4 St. E’s and they haven’t won any big games this year. The best team they’ve beaten this year is Milford who played tough against delmar last week but still they played DMA earlier in the season and DMA always starts off hot. I do agree if Woodbridge didn’t make it that would be ridiculous but come on with this DMA chatter.

DMA hasn't won any big games this because they've been battling injuries most of the year. Tower Hill's schedule is awful, period. No defending that mess.

And also you can’t make excuses for injuries they happen they are a part of the sport. That’s what you sign up for the bottom line is they lost 3 games this year so they shouldn’t be a lock for the playoffs.

I have no issue with 8 teams getting in. My biggest issue is strength of schedule for some of those teams. It’s never going to be perfect though.

The reasoning behind it was the amount of D-II schools has been constantly on the rise. I think the coaches association went to the DIAA to get the field expanded to 8. It was really based on the percentage of teams making the D-I tournament as opposed to D-II. Surprisingly, it was a very logical decision.

I hate the byes.. I don't know of very many states that have byes in their state tournament at least in football. I would like to see D1 go to 8 as well but I am sure I am in a minority on that one

Interesting discussion. I don't think the top 2 in D2 should have to win twice to get to the chip while the top 2 in D1 only have to win once. However D1 has 17 teams while D2 has 27. 8 out of 17 teams getting in is too similar to the NBA/NHL setup where half the teams make the playoffs (seems like a reward for mediocrity)

If you move the enrollment cutoff # to equally divide the 44 teams that would sync up the % of teams that make it in D1 and D2. Another possibility to even things out is creating that "D3" that's previously been mentioned, although imo the teams that ppl have said should be in D3 have been more competitive this season.

I see your reasoning for D1 being 8 teams but look at it right now....there isn't a soul in this state, that thinks the 6th seed stands a chance against ANYONE of the top 5. They might as well not even show up right? So if that's the case, the bottom extra 2 seeds would get embarrassed by seeds 1-2. Some of these kids want the season to be over already so they can focus on winter sports

It might just be my way of thinking because I've been on both sides of having a Bye week compared to not having one. I know coaches don't like it because it disrupts the flow of things, and it's hardness. Enough to get kids focused on what they have to do.

Personally I like the bye week, because usually you're a little banged up after 10 weeks of football. So that extra few days of rest and just film study of the teams you MIGHT see within the next two weeks goes a really long way. But that's just my outlook on it.

Another interesting thing is idk if it's the way the points are awarded or just a quirk in the numbers, but the D2 seedings are more likely to be off from the consensus of who the strongest teams are than the D1 seedings are.

It seems like that is due to some DII teams getting 6 points for playing weak DI teams.

But also Sussex tech won’t get in and could beat anyone on any night. Last year the 6-4 sallies were a top 3 team in the state and didn’t make the playoffs.

Ehhh....I wouldn't say Tech can beat anyone on any night. Just because the manhandled Smyrna without two of their 3 premier players, no head coach or offensive coordinator, the coach that coached probably never had to call a game in his life. I wouldn't go that far to say Tech can beat anyone on any night.

They got shutout against two teams in the playoffs already by Sallies and Central and lost by 39 to Dover. They also lost to Appo who is in the mix for the 6th seed. And that same Appo team lost to the potential top two seeds 35-0 by Mtown, and 52-6 to Hodgson.

Now I'd like to see a Tech and Sallies rematch but I disagree with the statement that Tech is the 6th best team. But I also don't see a consensus 6th best team in Division 1.

The Sallies predicament last season was a Fluke, they were the 3rd-4th best team on the state but because of their OOS and Division 2 losses they missed out. Another reason why I HATE D1 schools playing D2 schools because it hurts their playoffs chances. If you're going to play a D2 school, then beat them and the point is mute. (Before someone says it, yes I enjoyed my trip to Florida, no I didn't like the fact that we got 1 point out of it, when we could have gotten 3. Or stuck with the Baltimore School and got 6 for it)

It reminds me of Cape when they went 8-2 but their OOC schedule was nothing but Division 2 schools, so, they missed the playoffs and it was deemed unfair because they only lost twice. My response is, "yeah, but who have you played?"
