Who was the better player in high school? AJ English while at Appo or Donte Divincenzo while at Sallies. My friends and teammates frequently debate about this but I think it's an easy answer.Donte was far better in my opinion, his ability to score at will and to also facilitate better than anyone I've seen in Delaware High School basketball. And the last reason is he led his team to two consecutive state titles, while English never won one with a very talented team.

Donte, he led a 10-10 team to a championship, that team had no business being in a state title game.

Donte's run to the title his senior year was nothing short of spectacular, those final 4 games of his career were jaw dropping.... Id like to add though AJ English scored over 2000 pts in just 3yrs.... AJ avg over 30ppg for his entire career, Donte's great games were AJ's average games...

AJ's dad was probably better than both.
As a HS player Donte will go down in DE lore as some kind of deity.

We will see what happens in College.

Played against AJ's dad, definitely better than the two but then again he did have Stan for a point guard along with Carl lemon & Mike Brown. They beat us by 1pt on a missed dunk by Steve Hood with 2 seconds remaining in the game. We did get revenge my senior yr lol

Did you play for Marshall Emery?

Howard's coach in that era...Joe Hussey I believe.....

@ches, yes I played for coach emery, taught us a lot about basketball and being a man. He was was always good for a nice quote such as " son, don't spit in my face and tell me it's raining" or son, don't bullshit the bull, the bull has its own and if anyone complained to teachers or parents about how he ran the hell out of us in practice he would gather us all together, put his head down and start scratching his head while saying " men we have a judas among us lol, he is missed

Howard career center had so much talent it was crazy and Stan was such a polished point guard they hardly needed a coach lol

In 83 we played Howard at there home court and I remember thinking as we walked in the gym, damn everyone was rocking the ll cool j "I'm bad" kangols lmao

I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Emery when he was at DelState. (Was it his second time there?)
Great memories.

The coaching was deplorable at Appo when English went there.
