  • dwade_4It still has not fully sunk in that I am officially a college graduate. It went by so fast, I finished high school in 3 years and now finished college in 3. Now with my bachelors degree in hand I must move on to the next chapter of my education, which is getting my masters! Let's see how quickly I can finish that lol. Looking forward to becoming a Double Eagle and even more excited to dominate this year on the football field

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks defeated the Columbus Lions 27-21 in the National Arena League Championship to become NAL Champions in front of 9,730 of the best fans in the league.

The first points on the board went to the Sharks as Derrick Ross found the endzone on a short run from the goal line. Micheaux Robinson had a huge interception at the goal line as Columbus tried to retaliate.

Before the half, the Sharks pulled out an incredible never-before-seen play, where Damien Fleming tossed the ball back to Mo Williams who delivered a perfect pass to Mo Ruffins right into the endzone. With two missed field goals by the Lions in the last minute of the half, the Sharks successfully shut out Columbus from scoring in the first two quarters and led 13-0 going into halftime. .

At the beginning of the third quarter, the Lions scored their first points with a touchdown from Mason Espinosa to Tristan Purifoy. Damien Fleming went down hard and was replaced by Jason Boltus. The Sharks struck back towards the end of the third quarter with a short pass to Mo Williams from Boltus to allow the Sharks to go up 20-7.

Columbus made a run to catch up, scoring a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. It was later retaliated by Devin Wilson. Columbus came back and scored again to make the score a close 27-21. In the final minute, the Lions were driving down the field to score and potentially win the game. With four seconds left and less than ten yards to go, they fumbled and it was recovered by Jermiah Price to give the Sharks the ball and win the game with the most exciting finish of the season.

So now you have me reading through all these stories and I see that Paris hates the USFAF. In the words of my long departed uncle Vince "What the hell is going on out here?" U know, up until this point I have been a relaxed and reserved individual, but that all ends today. If those independence copying, croissant eating, SOB's want to kick us out, let them. But I will tell you this, I will no longer extend Lafayette a formal invitation to my 4th of July BBQ.

DOVER, Del. – Football has led former Wesley College quarterback Justin Sottilare '13 many places, five countries and three continents in four years to be exact.

A professional quarterback, Sottilare currently plays for the Vaasa Royals in Finland. He has also seen time with the Franken Knights in Germany, Seinäjoki Crocodiles in Finland, Moscow Black Storm in Russia and the Curtain Saints in Australia.

Logging many frequent flyer miles, Sottilare has certainly enjoyed his football journey.

"Each country has something special about it," he said. "I've just enjoyed spending some time and living in each of those countries. If I had to pick a favorite place I would have to say Australia because the country had some amazing wild life and national parks that make it an amazing place."

Now in his third season in Finland, the cultural differences in travel abroad haven't bothered the right-handed signal-caller.

"In Finland, everyone is very shy and keeps to themselves," Sottilare said. "Talking to a stranger at the store is something that never happens. With me being a bit talkative it makes for some very awkward moments at times. They also have 24-hour sunlight, so I've had to tinfoil my windows to get some darkness at night. In Russia, only about five people spoke English, so I had to talk a lot with my hands in order to express myself. Australia was pretty much like back home. The only thing that was an adjustment there was the lack of Wi-Fi."

A captain his senior season with the Wolverines, Sottilare was the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Year in 2010, a two-time D3football.com All-Region player and an All-ECAC performer in 2010. He tallied 6,673 passing yards and 74 touchdowns in his Wesley career.

"Wesley is a great place to study and play," said Sottilare. "Obviously the Wesley Football program has shown to be successful on the field, and I think that success is attributed to the men in charge. They have done a great job in coaching their players on and off the field. And as for me personally, I got the opportunity to play overseas because of the coaching that Coach (Chip) Knapp gave me. I don't think I'd have this opportunity if it weren't for him."

"Justin was a 'gym rat' for the playbook and our offense," said Knapp, who is entering his 26th year as Wesley's Offensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach. "(Justin) was always asking questions and interested in learning different ways to run our offense. He was one of the best game-managing quarterbacks that came through Wesley."

Sottilare is one of 14 former Wolverines to play professional football since 2002. Through nine games in 2017, Sottilare has led the Royals to a 7-2 record.
