Goldey-Beacom Men’s Basketball Picks Two New Assistant Coaches

Goldey-Beacom’s men’s basketball team has announced the hiring of Avery Sherrod and Nate Brown as assistant coaches.

Sherrod arrives after serving as an assistant coach last season at Brandywine High School. He helped coordinate offseason workouts and mentored the student-athletes in the academic achievement.

He also was an assistant coach at Mount Pleasant High School from 2013-16, helping the squad to a 54-9 record, two appearances in the Delaware State semifinals and two Blue Hen Conference titles. Sherrod helped coordinate all fundraising activities and oversaw student-athletes which recorded a 100 percent graduation rate.

Sherrod earned his B.S. from Norfolk State University, his Master’s of Education at Wilmington (DE) University and his Doctor of Education from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Brown last season played for BG Illertal in Germany, averaging 21.5 points, 8.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game. He also closed sixth in his league in scoring.

Brown played two seasons for Delaware Valley University, averaging 4.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest. He helped the 2014-15 squad go 16-11 overall, 10-4 in the Freedom Conference and earn a berth in the conference final.

Both are adds to a team which last season (20-7, 14-5 CACC) notched its best regular-season win total in school history at 20 and a berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Lightning also posted a school-record 12-game winning streak and a team-best 11 road wins.

Head coach TJ Dekmar, entering his second year, was listed among the top 30 men's basketball coaches – head coaches and assistant coaches of all divisions – under age 30 as released by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Goldey-Beacom opens its season November 11 against Franklin Pierce in Manchester, NH.
