WILMINGTON, DE Freshman Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE) picked up
her 13th and 14th wins of the season as the Goldey-Beacom College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Philadelphia University Wednesday afternoon, winning game one 3-0 and game two 2-1 at the GBC Softball Complex.

The Lightning extended their winning streak to four games and improved
their overall record to 21-15 while Philadelphia University dropped to 13-25.

Game one remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when freshman
Megan Harper (Atco, NJ) plated senior Devon O’Brien (Wilmington, DE) on an RBI groundout to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead. An RBI single by senior Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Kelly Halfen (Newark, DE) pushed the lead to 3-0 and gave GBC the win.

In the nightcap, the Lightning rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the bottom
of the sixth, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. Halfen led off the inning with a triple and scored on a throwing error to tie the game at one before Russell doubled home sophomore Sarah Gehman (King of Prussia, PA) for the go-ahead run.

Russell tossed three innings of scoreless relief in game one, allowing
just one hit while striking out one Ram batter. She allowed just one hit in 2.2 IP in game two, walking two while striking out one.

The Lightning return to action this Saturday when they travel to New
York to take on CACC rival Nyack College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
