Its my favorite time of the year again!!! For the 2018 Delaware High school football season, let’s keep this board active as possible with news, stats, scores and updates! I’m looking forward to another season in the first state! We will be able to tell a lot about some possible contenders after weeks 1 & 2:
Middletown vs Smyrna (week 1
Dover vs Woodbridge (week 2)
Tech vs Sallies (week 2)

Just to name a few. Any other key games early to look forward to???? Upstate??? Downstate??

Henlopen North is by far the most interesting conference this season. With Smyrna not expected to be as dominant as the last few years , post Knight, there could be an opening. Early bets are Dover could finally put that talent together and take it with the dynamic duo. You have Central and Tech both coming back with solid teams (not sure how many of Tech's big lineman they return, maybe someone can help me out with that)

Then you have the intrigue of Coach JD Maull heading up Cape so I am interested to see what he can do with that bunch as well as CR who is another big enrollment school with a coach in his second year so they could be decent as well. The only team not worth talking about in HNC would be Polly at this point

Poly has their coach back and a few kids from their one recent winning year with experience, so they might be lurking about.

Howard has the two biggest weeks to start the season - if they can split St. Georges and Hodgson, they have a shot as an at-large. Lose both and they'll have to win Flight B outright, which is tough considering AI returns a lot and Glasgow's always in the hunt.

Even if Poly can muster a winning season you cant overlook the fact their 4 out of conference games are D2 opponents.. AI, IR, Milf, and Laurel... not a shot at having enough points to sniff the play-offs. Heck they could easily lose 2 of those 4 . Half their 40 man roster were seniors last year..I can't see them winning more than 3 games this year.. JMHO

Dover vs Woodbridge will be good early but I think bridge runs away at the end. This is arguably the best Woodbridge team they’ve had these past couple years, I honestly see them running the table....unlimited athletes all over the place

In another post I questioned Howard being in the discussion for D2 but I forgot about Harley. So the question is. Will Harley remain a sportster or will he become an ultra glide?

Howard lost a chunk of its o-line, so it might be an ultra glide situation, but with the playmakers that remain, they'll be in the hunt.

Howard will be interesting lost a lot OL, both DEs, TE/WR, all conference LB, 3x All conference and all state Banks. I believe I heard a Chung has transfered so as far as returning playmakers the cupboard is bare.

Harley & Forbi to lead the way as seniors along with a rising sophomore RB that came on at end after being injured early in season. Young team but athletic as usually.

Howard will always be in the thick of it. Ritter and Matthews coached teams always get better week to week as the season goes on. They will be fine.

Yeah, Chung transferred to Salem from what I understand. That's a huge loss, but Reeves will be among the best RBs before the year is out. Looks like this Wildcat alum is going to have to temper his expectations a bit. Lol.
