Delaware State Head Coach Eric Skeeters (Coppin State, ‘97): 5-21 at DSU and career (first season);
2-11 in MEAC regular season; 0-0 vs. MSU
THE GAME Delaware State (5-21; 2-11 MEAC) begins its final homestand of the season with a visit to Memorial Hall by Morgan State. The Hornets are coming off a 70-60 win over Coppin State last Monday. Kevin Larkin (gr.) led three double-figure scorer for the Hornets with 16 points and topped all players with a career-high 18 rebounds to give him a team-leading 10 double-doubles this season. Jonathan Mitchell (sr.) came off the bench to add 15 points (6-11 FGs) in the Coppin State contest, while D’Marco Baucum (fr.) contributed 11 points to the win. Larkin is the Hornets’ leader and fourth in the MEAC in scoring at 16.4 points per game. He’s also the MEAC’s second-leading rebounder at 9.1 per game. Larkin also holds the MEAC single-game scoring high this season with his 40-point performance vs. Cairn on Dec. 3. DSU Point guard Pinky Wiley (sr.) is second on the Hornets in scoring at 10.2 points per game. Wiley is also the MEAC’s steals leader (2.1 pg) and is fifth in the conference in assists at 4.3 per game.
Morgan State (8-10; 3-10 MEAC) brings a six-game losing streak into the contest. The Bears are coming off a 75-69 home loss to Howard in their last contest on Feb. 25. MSU led 36-27 at the half, but was outscored 48-33 in the final 20 minutes. David Syfax was MSU’s high scorer in the contest with 18 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds in the game. Stanley Davis is the team leader and No. 15 in the MEAC in scoring at 12.4 points per game. He’s also seventh in the league in rebounding at 6.9 per contest.
HORNETS vs. Bears Series History (MSU leads 56-43) This is the only scheduled meeting between the Hornets and Bears this season. The teams split two meetings last season, with each winning on its home court. Morgan State won the first 2017-18 contest 61-47, while the DSU retuned the favor with an 87-80 victory in the regular season finale. The Hornets and Bears have split their last four meetings. Morgan State holds a 56-43 lead in the series.
