Having allegiance to both teams I drove over an hour to see what I hoped would be good lacrosse. Was sadly disappointed by the Sals. Their game strategy if they had one was placed on the shoulders of one midfielder, #9 who displayed poor skills. No stick, not particularly fast or agile, fairly good east-west because he barreled over his opponents but no field sense or lacrosse IQ. Not sure he ever left the field, even took face offs when their starting face off man proved unsuccessful. A good team will create opportunities and not try to force opportunities. Malvern’s goalie is every bit as good as his reputation but was not challenged last night. Three of the Sals goals were good but two were in the last few minutes when the Friers were guaranteed the win and had their second/third string players on the field. Malvern looked sharp and executed easily against the Sallies defense. Good win for Malvern at this point in their season. Can Sallies win the state title again? Probably due to the low level of competition in Delaware but then again I can not recall a team ever being successful when they rely so heavily on one player and a mediocre one at that.
