Well done boys. You let another Charter in and they re-balance the divisions. Sussex Academy and ECHS are both in the South, without football, and they make it 8 up/8 down. Idiots...

More uncompetitive football......yippee. Complete idiots at work. DIAA just doesn’t care. Everyone should just drop out of all the conferences . Screw DIAA.

Soccer07 what do you mean another Charter in? What school is that in reference to since Academy and ECHS doesn’t have football?

I believe ECHS will have a varsity football team next year. Milford must be the biggest D2, which will now bump them to D1. Insane.

Considering how Milford hid their freshman in their 8-9 middle school it was only a matter of time before DIAA moved them up! Should’ve happened years ago.
Academy and ECHS need to be independent first before going into conference. It’s going to take time for their programs to develop.

Milford didn't "hide" anyone. 8th graders played middle school, 9th graders played high school. No exceptions. The use of the Central Academy for 8th graders was due to the emergency closing of the middle school.

Does this have any effect on Newark now?

The only way it would effect Newark is if one of the Flight B schools has a higher enrollment than them.. The enrollment numbers were due 9/30 but haven't been published yet

2017/2018 numbers

D1
Polly 1188
Concord 1182
St G 1146
Newark 1131
HVT 1125

D2
Milford 1054
Mt P 1024
AI 999
IR 939
Lake 928

Mt P or AI would have to surpass HVT or Newark for any movement.. so Ill go out on a limb and say Newark stays D1

It is my understanding that Newark made the D1 cut for the next two years at least. Their schedule includes all Flight A teams, and 3 Division 2 teams probably because they weren't sure what conference they would be in so they set the schedule up accorinngly, much like when A.i. And Hodgson swapped. Their schedules were set, they just flipped them.

no big deal, Milford played in the north for many years. Delmar / Friends has excelled while being one of smaller D2 programs, nothing to say that Milford couldn't do the same at D1. Strickland has turned the program around and they'll compete at whatever level they're on. They've maintained 2-3 D1 teams on their schedule the last few years in Sussex Tech, Polytech, and Cape. Sure they may get smacked around by Smyrna but who hasn't the last few years.

It's not to say that Milford COULDN'T compete at a D1 level, it's more about how Sussex Academy and ECHS (and I say this as a DSU alum) was intent on joining a conference they'll probably never be competitive in and how that jammed up Milford. I know it's the enrollment figures and all, but even if it weren't, I'm sure the balance thing would've come into play.

I get the argument about the D1 vs D2 is because of school size but man look at how easy that Henlopen South becomes with Milford dropping out. You now have ECDSU which I saw their J.V team play and granted it is their first year but with no feter pattern just like polytech they will struggle to succeed. Woodbridge and Delmar every year now.
Then the success of Milford not even just football but wrestling will be way down

I would have to say good luck to Milford when they come back into the North. In football you have Smyrna, Central and usually a up and coming team. Last year it was CR. This year it is Dover. Tech has lots of size. Then go to the playoffs and wait for Middletown, Sallies and HVT. It's brutal........Wrestling is just as deep and competitive.

2009 Milford team (year after they won D2 States) went 6-1 vs North opponents losing only to CR. So its possible.

Wrestling is 11-10 vs North in last 5 years while winning D2 Duals title each year.

So how is this DIAA's fault? The rules are pretty clear. Reclassify teams based on Sept. 30 enrollment. DIAA doesn't tell the conferences who they can and can't accept. You should be upset at the Henlopen Conference for accepting ECHS and Sussex Academy.

The DIAA, by the way, is an organization made up of its member schools. The 2 people in the office don't dictate how their members must operate.

Because DIAA rules don’t work and they never get changed. I don’t believe schools should solely be classified by enrollment. It doesn’t work . Other states have formulas they’ve developed to classify their teams. Check the scores every weekend. Uncompetitive , blowout football. Delaware is too back woods stupid to fix anything.

Most people enjoyed watching charter lose to Middletown 70-0 every year because oh well they have 1500 kids in their school. That must mean they’re good at football right ? Nope .

Hodgson looks to have the least amount in D1 and they are in the top 3 in Div 1. I cant say the same for the other 4 on the list.

With those numbers, HVT is at the bottom of the D1 list. If they somehow lose some kids and went back to D2.....WOW!!!!!!!

How close did they come to being D2?

I'm just saying that in the last 5 years, Milford would not have won a title in football or wrestling. Just my opinion. The North is strong enough, then sprinkle in some of these independents and it is a whole new world.

HVT is a bit of an anomaly when it comes to football. Despite their enrollment they have top 5 D1 school numbers in terms of participation in their football program.. 80-100 each year

Interesting!

I'll take Hodgson by 10. I think Hodgsons availablility to substitute more and often will start to wear on Delmar by the 4th qt.

Exactly. You get it. It’s not about total enrollments it’s about participation and size of program. Some people just don’t get that.

Hodgson by 14 over Delmar

Probably not very close. HVT enrollment has been trending upwards and Newark's trending downward. Pretty sure HVT surpassed Newark. Besides dont think Mt P or AI was within a 100 of Newark .. It will be interesting to see the numbers once they post them. Report doesn't usually come out until November though

Well I’m just surprised more of these athletes don’t start going to tech schools. You have the opportunity to have the best athletes from every county going to one school! Long gone are the days of home grown talent and shut down the town for football with school choice.

Look what happened to William Penn. St.Georges and Hodgson have bleed their talent pool. Sussex Tech has always pulled kids from western Sussex County. Polytech is the one that makes no sense. Beautiful facilities, state of the art technology, but they haven't figured it out. Could be local school pride still matters unlike above the canal.

and its going to get worse with St G and HVT being D1 now. St G has 31 freshman football players. HVT has 30.. 30x4= 120 if the trend continues

Newark football sucks the drp to D2 would help

I don't disagree with you. Obviously, Charter agreed because they bailed on Flight A specifically because of football. There could be a better way to come up with divisions. But this is the system they use.

As I've said before, the DIAA is not two people in an office. It's the member schools. The representatives of the schools could propose changes to the system.

Perfect example no value just putting down a entire school people like you are the reason society is like this. True butter sucker
