Is there reason to keep one eye on them? Forget the Red Lion game was a waste of time but looking deeper at them I see they have a ton of Seniors particularly for a Hen South team... I watched the VanVorst kid wrestle last year and he is a stud.. I would be curious to see how good a footballer he is.. Hear some good things about Son Martinez as well.... my guess is they win more than 1 game but is there reason for optimism in Milford country???

Might have to put eyes on them Sat vs DMA...

RR, they looked pretty good in scrimmages against CR and Cape. While they were just scrimmages, they are both D-1 teams. As for the RLCA game, it is very hard to garner anything out of it. RLCA dressed 25 and only about 15 of them looked like football players. Milford is deep at running back with Bowman returning as sophomore, plus some freshman that will be turning a few heads as well. The line looks improved by I think there are still some players that need to pay a little bit more attention to the finer points, such as remembering the snap count. This Saturday is a big test for them, DMA handed Milford their heads last year and I think the Buccaneers are trying to move on from the past. Burying this ghost from the past 2 seasons would go a long way to doing it, but it is a tall order IMO. One thing is for sure, attitude and accountability looked to be much improved.

good stuff...thanks.. per RLCA's roster they have 22 and 15 of them are 8 thru 10th graders..

I saw that number as well. I did an actual head count Friday. I don't know what the participation was, but there were 25 dressed. Several of them looked middle school sized.

Yeah I am guessing they brought a few kids from the MS team just in case...

RL should have waited another year IMO. There is a HUGE difference between 8/9 grade and 12th.

I agree but I understand why they had to field a varsity team this year.. I am sure they have some kids that want a shot at playing in the Blue-Gold

have a team ?so kids can play blue gold?thought i had heard it all

yeah because that is what I said..smh... They already had a team they just played a JV schedule last year.. There is a SR on the team who has been a 4 year 3 sport varsity player for them.. I am sure that player would like a shot at BG... but that isn't only reason they needed to play a Varsity schedule .. Having kids not transfer out to other schools whom field Varsity teams would be another..could be a bunch of reasons. Maybe after going 7-3 last year they thought they were ready.. I know when they beat Caravels JV last year they were real excited you would have thought they won the State Championship or something..haha

it probaly was time to play varsity

kids in delaware would transfer for sports??that is hard to believe-i have been told for 40 yrs that transfers are for academic reasons

as only sr he is in the blue gold game as all schools must have a player

congrats

WG there are 5 SR's but if I was a betting man the kid I am talking about will be the choice.. Just FYI its not uncommon for privates that are K-12 to lose students when they reach HS.. Sometime kids just want to go to a different HS and sometimes it is for Athletics.. Just this year Caravel lost two very good wrestlers who wrestled on Varsity as 8th graders.. One went to Sallies and one to St Georges.. The one that went to Sallies it was always his plan to go to HS there..

As for Red Lion it looks like they lost a handful of kids from last years team that would be Jr and Sr's this year.. That might be hurting them some..but "maybe" having a Varsity team this year kept some kids there that are incoming 9th graders.. who knows..

Back to the topic.

Today was a tough day for Milford, they didn't bring their A game, when they clearly needed to. Make no mistake about it, DMA clearly was the better of the two teams in this 34-14 victory by the Hawks. Milford could have played much better however and it will be interesting to see how the Buccaneers respond going forward. I don't keep stats, but sophomore David Bowman probably had 300 all purpose yards today, 95 coming on a kickoff return.

The areas where Milford needs to improve are many, starting with discipline. The DB's could not or would not follow the instructions of the coaches. With time running out in the first half, the coverage was cover four, instead some DB's pressed up. This was not the first or last time the players didn't listen to the coaches. Result :TD with 5 seconds left.

Penalties, OMG were there some penalties today. I think there were a few missed/bad calls, but that wasn't the issue. Milford continually shot themselves in the foot, committing stupid fouls that kept the defense on the field.

Outlook:

I think they can be legit this season, it is up to them. They had the talent to get to the second level of the DMA defense at times today. But it is up to them, they have to dig a little deeper and understand that when it gets tough, they have to learn how to stay together. When they are tired, they have to find a way to push past the wall.

It was a tough loss on a hot day, but they can learn from it going forward.

No worries, I tend to overreact to almost everything. Just ask RR. If there is a mole hill, I can make a mountain out of it.

so what if Milford runs it up on someone. I can remember back in 91 or 92 during the "Streak" Seaford ran it up on Milford to the tune of 83-0.

I wasn't there, but I was told Milford chose to kick off the second half. In my mind that's a class move. Some years ago I officiated a game when an out of state coach called time early in the fourth quarter and told his players that they were not going to score again. They ran straight handoffs the remainder of the game, sometimes falling out / laying down if they broke through the line of scrimmage. I understood the intent, but they were at least somewhat making a mockery of the game. I still wonder to this day how the opposing coaches and players felt about it.

VS I must agree with your thought process, when a coach tries to hard not to run up the score, they still must make sure the players play the game the way they have been taught. Now, no need to pass, run trick plays, on-side kicks, etc. Give the 2nd and 3rd team a chance to play a good part of the game. These kids will continue to play hard. Play with class, never embarrassing the opponent is a true sportsman. Respect your opponent at all times.

You are correct Vert, Milford did have choice in the second half as they deferred at the start of the game and they chose to kick off to start the second half, not to mention that they had their 3rd string and JV's in half way through the second quarter. The reality is, the previous Coach and AD (who happens to be the same person), was attempting to lighten up the schedule some given Milford's previous couple of years bad seasons. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, he went a little to far the other way.

My thought is where do we draw the line in the sand, football and most recently certain de hs lacrosse teams running up the score on teams. If a team lays down or plays keep away from the other team then they are making a mockery of the other team, can't please everybody. Not sure what could be done or should be done, should there be a mercy rule in every sport! Is this fair to the 2nd- 3rd team guys that finally get a chance on the field. Not sure! Goes back to topic of DE needing to look at a restructuring their divisions maybe for each sport?

Milford emptied the benches half way through the second quarter. Buccaneers only scored 13 points in the second half. The issue is the scheduling for Milford. They were screwed no matter what they did and it is a growing problem in Delaware. Milford had a choice, get waxed by D-1 teams like Sussex Tech and Cape or pick up some softer teams. Milford chose the latter.

RLCA was begging for someone to play them, so Milford did.

St. Andrews was 6-3 two seasons ago, beating Friends twice and Tower Hill once.

DMA was kept on the schedule, a playoff contender.

Conrad is a team I know little about, but St. E's, DMA, Arch and Tower Hill all have them on their schedule this season.

I know for a fact that the primary consideration for the schedule was that Milford was tired of all the injuries the incurred on the earlier part of their schedule in recent seasons. They wanted to be healthy when they began divisional play, that was the goal.

Does it help your points index by getting wins, no doubt. But the question comes back to who is available to schedule against. That is the problem, who were they supposed to play?

No one likes to live in this town according to the gay community we are not welcome there. Don’t understand why this day an age it’s not a choice
