Although graduating many big names like Robert myrick and raheim Burnett this season do not sleep on the green Knights next season. Yes I would agree that if they were gonna ever win the chip it would be this past season but that doesn't give teams to not fear this team when they come face to face. Cramer the 6'5 center will be returning and word on the street is he is working to be a guard next season. Junior Dejon Backus will be returning to mount for his senior season he will be a huge danger in the paint. Mount had so much talent on there bench even in the Jv program last year. One in Sean Carroll. Kid stood out in a few Jv games but had some tough competition for playing time at the varsity level.

Just watch out guys. Mount will be back

I'm in full agreement. But some folks (on this board and elsewhere) seem to like it that way, which sucks because if a few of these 6'4-6'5 kids were actually allowed to develop perimeter skills, we'd see a lot more of them at a decent level of college ball.

So why don't schools play more of a motion 5-out offense that everyone get a chance to develop there overall skills. I see kids all the time play PG just because they're short and have less ball skills than someone taller. I agree Delaware basket is not gear to get kids to college, it just for local bragging rights.

You can still develop skills and play a position your team needs.

The biggest issue with development in Delaware is that people just don't understand how to develop.

You don't develop skills in games. Practice is where it all happens.

The biggest issue in development of every sport in this State is the same issue with individual players: allowable practice time.

Then you have adults that treat practice like its a hassle and kids that don't believe it's important.

Allen Iverson has a big hand in this! But if AI was talking about practice less and giving what he gave on gameday to practice, well then just maybe he'd be Steph Curry.

Not every high school team has the luxury of having of 6'9-7'0 15-18 yr old on their team so they make due with what they have
Thats a cop out. Are they in it for themselves or are they in it for the children? You study and taylor make your style to benefit the child........

Did you really just blame Allen Iverson? SMH
Skill development should be part of practice and the off season High school coaches SHOULD be allowed to deal with their players year round to make sure the child is getting what they need to develop into a well rounded player. This state is small minded they only see winning here which means absolutely NOTHING in the grand scheme of things. The style of play needs to change to benefit the children

The interesting thing about all this is, the high school coach get them for two and a half months. Where are the AAU/Travel coaches in this equation as far as development? They are the ones getting paid the big money passing out shoes and the high school coach has to try and teach the kids how to shoot free throws. The high school coach has to sit there and try to work with kids who are getting calls from the AAU/Travel coach who are blasting the high school coach. "Yo, you should be starting", "you should transfer to ...., I know the coach and he'll do you right", blah blah.
Come into a high school and try and mesh all the different pieces together, and win. DIAA doesn't hold kids back, grades do. If you can name five standout academic basketball players, I can name fifty who struggle. Why? Misguided parents and snake oil selling wish they could have beens...
Come on people

Soccer07 what big bucks, passing out gear yes but AAU is mostly DADDY BALL in all sports. Futhermore If a parent is looking for development, most AAU programs would be the last place to find it. No practice, kid bias, nasty politics, selfish play, the showcase mentality for exposure that's it. High school coaches have kids five days a week before and during season, a lot more time to teach skills and develop. Many are teachers or administrators and have access to kids, their grades etc. In this scenario more should be exspected of them. It is the neglect of high school coaches that has given rise to AAU. They got complacent, so AAU swooped in and took over recruiting. But, u won't find any rational parent who likes the trashy exspensive delusional environment. I personally like the high school team camp environment over the AAU circuit but many high school coaches lack funding or desire. DIAA plays a negative role because it places to many limitations on good coaches ability to develop out of season.

Well Im an AAU coach and I dont selling children anything. I believe that the high school coach and the AAU coaches should work together. Im curious what high school do you coach for because your making it sound like the high school coaches here in Delaware have nothing to do with the problem

You are absolutely right. The high school coach and AAU coach should communicate and work together for the benefit of the player. You know too that is not always the case. Glad to hear you do, spread the idea to others.
As a high school coach I only have kids for a limited amount of time. The majority of time my kids play is outside of school for other people. It just seems like so much extra responsibility is placed on the high school coach. A few people get on here with all the answers and schemes. Apply for a high school coaching job and really see what it takes day to day. Oh and you only get to play who goes to your school. No shoes to lure kids. Just lots of extra hrs. driving kids home b/c no one shows up to pick them up. Kids don't show up for practice on Saturday morning b/c of a new shoe release. Kids shows up for school late on a game day and can't play.
Its called EXTRA-curricular for a reason. The kids are called student-athletes for a reason. With all the FREE, get all the kids in college programs out there, I even think sportsjunkie would agree that books should be the focus. In the end it is about getting prepared to support yourself and take care of your family. You know, get a good job?

Unfortunately we cannot turn back the hands of time, today's parents & kids are feed through the endless hype machine full of money grubbing snake oil salesmen, selling camps, training, exposure events, training programs vedios, etc or false dreams. Its easy to become delusional in this environment. So many trainers are crawling from under rocks with their youtube credentials teaching nonsense charging by the hour. I always tell parents, find a good AAU program, A good academic school & program, and stick with them. Be an educated consumer, Avoid the scammers.

1st the reason you only have your children is because your restricted by the rules here in DE. Second here are the facts only a few kids here in Delaware a year are actual division 1 basketball players. 3rd Not all AAU teams are REAL AAU teams some are just money grabs that are selling kids false hope and they should be called out and done away with. Every kid here does NOT deserve to play AAU it should be only the elite. that would cut down on a lot of your problem. Finally Books are the focus they can't get the scholarship without it
