MT, Cape and Lake

Agreed schools like MTown, WP, Sallies, Smyrna, etc are just a cut above right now and beating the lower end of D1 does nothing for the fans, players, etc. I have been on both sides of those beatings and they suck. Would love to see all of those schools playing 2-3 teams from NJ/MD/PA, etc that are good football schools.
Those would be ugly,

They need to first start by playing New Jersey publics and Philly privates.

The only way to get better as a program is to play better programs from OOS and see what it looks like to be a good program.

It will make both the players and coaches see that they need vamp up what they are doing in the offseason.

The schools above on their better years can play with the NJ pubs and Philly privates, but they are light years away from being on a top MD/NJ private schedule

The top couple schools in DE play well, but its a small pond (46 HS). IMHO, any of them would be hard pressed to finish above #3 in WCAC, #3 in MIAA-A, or to be above .500 in NJ's BNU (DBP, BC, SJR, DP, PC). Might be some interesting games, but I'm afraid they'd be outmanned vs the top MD and NJ privates.

Sam Cotton was a BEAST lol. Brandon Brown, ullyes Todd, Elias Brothers man them boys could play.
Sam was a BEAST for Butch and the Yellowjackets. Those two beat us bad in the 2004 Ship, MDP's first year as HC. Sam should of been a cavalier, SC's agent (d/a/d) and BDN didn't see i2i 3 years earlier. I think the outcome would've been different if Eric Lattimore (DE Penn State) & #59 (LT Hartwick) were not out injured. That is the side Butch attacked as he controlled the clock.
BB was a good hard runner, Elias brothers, J & M were straight up ornery, BDN could write a book about their escapades. I know I could!
Unitas Todd, (Valley Forge Military Academy/ University of Rhode Island) my favorite all time all purpose yards player, he could do anything and everything. A little side note: I've seen his father give 30 plus years to the development of youth football in our area. I think his best years were with his/our friend Dave Lawson, who was a pretty good QB for WP.

Delaware is not ready to make that jump. We are behind as a state due to DIAA rules and organization of sports. Some teams in the past like those late 90s/early 2000s Newark teams, Wade and Godwin MOT, and maybe one of those 3 Sussex Central (they were stacked) teams could have competed but that's rare. We are talking every 7 years. You want to come out of scrimmages alive and healthy. Playing some of those teams I'm not sure is worth the risk. At least if it's a Gane you could get the points lol

I don't know if this is possible but if MT is "under scheduled" they should opt out of the BHC for at-large football. Penn did this for wreastling several years back, so a precedent has been set. The Sals would like to have a traveling partner on those bus trips.

Even the Wade Godwin teams would get blasted by the the NJ/MD privates, line play in the state is way to far behind.

Don't mean to bring ECA into the equation, but last two years were the weakest they've been, but still easily would have dominated in the state, mainly because of the line play.

Well I'm sorry jawnsky....that I don't know every name on the sallies roster....last I checked I was a Middletown fan. Not a sals.

You're also taking my scrimmage bosco statement too literal, if you read between the lines....you'd notice I was using them as examples, I don't know what schools are in those states, but I'm sure they're better than what Middletown scrimmaged last Friday. Which is what I was trying to say......scrimmage better teams, schedule better teams, we're all tired of blow outs, I am too, I would give everything to replace charter and Delcastle on the schedule with someone relevant . No offense to those schools but they shouldn't be division 1. We can all agree that. But like I said in the first post, the schedule is the way it is, we have to play and scrimmage these teams.

HS- we agree, the Cavs could certainly sked some tougher scrimmages and it would be nice if they had some tougher competition in the regular season. Like I said-it was not personal. The only thing I would point out as I have several times in the past.....If the Cavs played a schedule like Sallies year after year they may not have achieved as much. When you play a 10 game schedule and most of your opponents are good teams-you tend to lose a few more games.

I won't disagree with you on that. I have always given credit where it was due. Sallies plays the toughest schedule year in and year out, and always manages to make the playoffs. Not many of any Delaware teams can accomplish that feat.

Sallies line would have been ok vs ECA 325-330# line in a match up, but their secondary appeared confused vs Smyrna. ECA two years ago with playing seven Fr/So on defense and five Fr/So on offense (injuries in TX) would have been underdogs. Last year, even at 3-6, I think they give top-4 DE good, interesting games. Just an opinion. I've seen 20+ ECA games and saw Smyrna, Penn, and Sallies last year.

I don't know that comparing ECA teams to other Delaware HS schools is fair. Essentially, ECA was able to "select" some of best football talent in the state (and surrounding states) to form a team. Much like a private school, but with the caveat that 100% of the players were there for their football talent.

For the record, I know a lot of the players and the coaches and I have no issues with what they attempted to do. The players and coaches worked hard.

In my opinion, Delaware absolutely has the individuals to compete with athletes in neighboring states but there is just not enough depth to compete as teams.

I wonder if that ECA model will be adopted by ECAravel...they could be the next new wave of football academies/schools. Should be interesting to see how this ECAravel experiment shakes out.
