If a BBall scholarship is the goal, there are many factors to consider as to why kids like Burnett end up at JC. For him I think size, bad advice & not being a factor on the national AAU circuit. For others it's grades or specifically not meeting NCAA eligibility requirements by end of junior year. I sense many parents/coaches don't understand or care enough about the rules until it's to late. kids/parents have to understand that delaware basketball success is great but it won't get u a scholarship. In todays game Colleges Coaches do almost 100% of their recruiting from AAU or powerhouse high school tournaments. If u r not a part of either no one's coming to delaware to see u. U are responsible for your own recruiting, most delaware high school coaches don't care or are only worried about winning the next chip. To frame this, AAU performance =scholarships, high school is about school pride & community which are important. Lastly AAU is a broad definition, so what I mean is playing on a travel team that competes in major tournaments. Boo Williams, hoop group, sneaker circuit, AAU nationals, major philly tournaments etc. Stay away from Sills or local delaware crap if the goal is exposure for scholarship opportunities. Most importantly u gotta hit those books. The eligibility clocks starts ticking freshman year.
