Quiet again on this board....hmm....

What did everyone come away with tonight from the games they witnessed?

HS Takeaways from Middletown Campus.....

- Elkton came to play. Has a Quarterback that knows where his receivers are going to be before he even lets go of the ball. You don’t see that quality much in high school.

- Elktons Wide Receiver who committed to Villanova was probably the best athlete on the field today. Not sure of the kids name but he’s going to be doing big things at the next level.

- I came away last year with this same assessment and I’m walking away with it again tonight, If Elkton was a DIAA member, they would cause fits for any one they would play here. Top 5 in the state for sure (IF they played here)

- Middletown looked rough. In the game against Elkton the DBs seemed to have trouble sticking to their man, or knowing when to let their man go to the safety. Got better as the game went on and went extremely well against North east.

- Braden Davis did play today, and it was hard to judge his play because it seemed like where he threw the ball the receivers had trouble holding onto them. But once again, as the night went on, it got better and seemed like it was a natural art to him. I believe The more time spent with his receivers, and the more time his receivers catch a football from him the better that chemistry is going to be going into the season on both ends.

- The Referee counting on the Middletown side of the field should learn the rulebook. Counts 1,2,3 then Whistle.....where it’s my understanding it’s 1,2,3,4 THEN whistle. NO TEAM can run their full route in 3 seconds. But, he got better as the night went on as well. Lol

- Lake Forest was actually throwing the ball and seemed like they had much success against Elkton. Didn’t see much from the north east game.

- North East had a very difficult time moving the ball against Middletown. I think they only received 1 first down. I don’t know much about this team but I would assume they are more of a running team then an aerial attack. If it’s the same QB from last season he has certainly improved his passing but couldn’t find the open receiver, if there was one.

Overall......Elkton won the day! and deservedly so. As a spectator, it was fairly quiet on the field compared to what I’m usually seeing. Didn’t see much from players helping teammates if it was needed, they left it to the coaching staffs. As far as trash talking, there wasn’t much of that, if anything, seemed like all 4 teams was just out there having fun and trying to get better.

I watched the game Elkton looked pretty good. North East lplayers looked very small -not sure the make up for the team (Sr/Jr vs Fr/So)

Davis seemed to settle down a bit but he had a number of dropped passes. At first the 'sack clock' messed with his rhythm but he worked through it.

According to NCC rules "Referee will verbally count “1001, 1002, 1003” followed by a whistle" not 1, 2, 3 4 and whistle. Both teams worked on the same sack clock. Elkton actually lost one of their early touchdowns because the QB was ruled sacked despite pass being caught in the end zone.

I thought all the teams were well behaved and fairly disciplined.

Anyone know how Smyrna or Sallies made out?

Oh. I didn’t mean to make it sound like the “sack count” worked one way. Believe me. Early on, I felt like it was way too quick for both Mtown and Elkton. And I agree Elkton got robbed of a one. And then there was one time the whistle didn’t get blew til the 5th-6th second for Mtown. It was just way too inconsistent for my taste, but hey, it’s only 7on7 lol

The QB Tee is the essential tool for football and Elite Quarterback Training.
  • Timer starts automatically when ball is removed from cradle.
  • Eliminates quarrels over subjective timing!
  • Buzzer is audible indoors or outside.
  • Lightweight so it can easily be moved to the new line of scrimmage.

This used to be used when my nephew was playing in 7v7 for his school... idk what ever happened besides the whole shotgun situation

I didn’t even realize he was a DB. Thought he was more a RB.
Here’s a silly question: who takes credit for the commitment (StE, St. Marks, or Middletown) technically only played for two not the third yet. Schools use that when trying to sell a program.

They recruit measurables now from the combines and camps. Film and who you play for means nothing. Size and athleticism is where it’s at the rest can be coached up at least in the minds of. The ultra ego NCAA coaches lol

I totally get that but you know these high school coaches with egos will say they put so and do in this college. That’s what I was referring too.

I think this is very surprising since he has changed 3 schools in 4 years. (IMO)

I’m not sure I understand how the amount of high schools the kid has attended has anything to do with him receiving a scholarship to play in college? I don’t know the young man, nor his situation. But I do know this.
1. If he transferred I’m sure it would have to have been approved by the DIAA.
2. For any university to offer him a scholarship that also must mean he’s doing what is required in the classroom.
3. He’s a special enough athlete that a college coach saw fit to offer him a scholarship.
All 3 of those things are pivotal factors that should be taken into consideration before kids are picked apart for actually succeeding in life after high school athletics. I would think everything else is completely irrelevant!

#2 Is not entirely true . There are many kids who sign their letter of intent from an offer who don't get through the NCAA clearinghouse. It's a big part of the reason the power 5 schools offer more schollies than they have available because they know a portion of them won't get through.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing because he is going to schools with better coaching and more exposure, but wouldn’t college coaches see that and just think for a second, that he might not to stay at the school for all 4 or so years.

It is true that kids are transferring more in college than they used to so I would say the trend does carry over just not sure the college coaches care so much being mostly the kids transferring are not going to start at their current school in most cases. It's par for the course when players are choosing the school for reasons other than actually wanting a degree from that particular school

Tough to blame the kids though.. They spend their lives being told how special they are and when being recruited how much they are wanted then they get there and find out there are a bunch of other special players and some more special than them. The kids also find out there is no loyalty in the game so they move to where they think is a better fit..The whole thing is dirty. Have you noticed in the past 6 or 7 years the kids don't even bother saying they chose such and such school for the academics anymore..They know its BS
