for being the start of football (in my eyes) the board is somewhat quiet today. So unless someone beats me to this post I’ll start off.

What did everyone see/think of the games they witnessed tonight?

Was Marks coaching for Smyrna?
How was the Dover and Sallies QBs?

I’ll list what I witnessed at Middletown.

Appo came out with fire against Middletown to start. Refs had to settle down a few players. One kid stood out to me the most on Appo, and I wish I got his name, he did quite a bit of jawing but seemed like he could back it up. Will a weapon for them as the season goes on.

No Braden Davis did not play for the Cavs, he’s away this week. The back up Colby Chambers seemed like his confidence grew as the night went on. A few shaky passes in the beginning, but seemed to had hit his groove, has a nice deep ball and threw into some tight windows. MTs Secondary could be one of the best I’ve seen, if not, at least up there, still work to do.

Didn’t see anything from Lake Forest.

Red Lion had a fiery spark to them. Nice size kids, QB threw a good ball and running back Brandon Anderson will be their best player. Reminds me of Watkins (both came from the same feeder program) not sure of the offensive line Red Lion will possess, but if Anderson gets some blocks he’s going wreck havoc against his opponents. Has speed and shiftiness that you would need in this game.

So the new starting QB for Middletown had something better to do than be with his teammates in their first piece of real action? Sounds like they might be rethinking his future in Delaware.

I might be wrong but he was away on family vacation not a recruiting trip. But the back up did an exceptional job. As a fan I’m confident in his ability if he had to ever step in for Braden.

Marks was there? How did Smyrna and Hodgson look going up against each other?

Recruiting is shut down for FBS schools at this moment. So more than likely a family vacation. Poor planning on a ‘football’ family for a possible vacation. However, could be a another elite camp? A lot of what ifs. Give it a rest and he will show up.

Smyrna handled Newark
Hodgson handled Caravel
Caravel beat Newark
Hodgson handled Smyrna

Kids miss a few 7v7 games in the summer all the time. Vacations, Camps, Travel baseball tournaments. Etc. it’s no big deal. Not all people have the luxury of planning their family vacations around 7v7. Traditionally football families plan their summer vacations before August.

Did anyone make it to A.I. to see Howard and Sallies?
I was at the Sallies/Howard scrimmage, actually the first HS 7on 7 game I've ever attended. It was interesting to watch but so early in the preseason there were as many drops, blown assignments, etc as completions. Sallies had a couple big body types that were able to get the contested throws but with no disrespect to our Baynard brothers from Howard, they physically outmatched the Wildcats and should have.
Every year I read posts from people trying to gauge how teams will do based upon these games, don't understand how they would but I'm not an X's ' O's guy so who knows

Figured that. Who were the other teams at that site?

DMA & AI. Wasn't paying attention too much but it seemed as if DMA was handling AI pretty well. DMA had the smallest HS player I've seen on the gridiron in some time, looked to be about 5', was very quick

7v7 is just an opportunity see to what kind of athletes a team has. Obviously when the pads go on and its 11 on11 with lineman it’s different. But elite athletes show in 7v7 and it translates on the football field when it’s for real. But your right it in no way dictates how good a team will be in the season but recently the teams that do well in 7s have some success in season but not always.

Last year I believe Middletown and A.I. went undefeated in the NCC league.

I was at AI as well to watch the first round of games. Top is right Sallies was bigger and stronger than Howard, but Howard should do well in D2 again. The QB expected to replace Ty Harley has a strong arm, some height to him and a made a few nice throws.

AI's got some nice athletes as well and DMA looks well-disciplined with the execution to match as usual.

B Davis didn't play probably because he was traveling to IMG for the NextGen The Show invite only camp that starts today.

I know it’s 7v7 but any games recommending to watch. Nothing else to do for 2 months while out of work for injury

Let’s be honest... there’s only a few teams that actually throw the football. That being said most 7v7 games aren’t really indicative of that teams offense. You do get a feel for a teams athleticism for sure...JMO

Off the top of my head Middletown, AI, Hodgson, Smyrna, Elkton, Howard throw the ball a bunch! I don't know about some of the other teams because I've never seen them play. But this is 2019 and a lot of those seems set up the run game with the pass game.

True Buc some teams play to win at 7v7 and some will just run their regular O and D (like DMA) and don't care about the score. To the latter it's just about practice
