My takes on what I saw from Middletown.....
The Cavs got off to a real sluggish start once again, not sure if that was because they had camp yesterday all day, just to report to 7on7 or if this is going to be a trend come the season.
Braden has the potential to be something special but his timing with his receivers is still not there. The Backup Colby Chambers stepped in and was showing everyone that there are TWO quarterbacks on the team. He stepped in against Hodgson and threw a nice 40-50 yard touchdown strike. Threw the ball where only his receiver could get it. The defense for the most part I thought faired extremely well, keeping Newark scoreless, and Hodgson to only 13. There’s some freshman on this Middletown team that are stepping up and making plays, as long as they keep progressing Middletown will have a fearsome defense this year.
Hodgson came out and did what I thought they would, be aggressive early, find ways to put their best receiver Thomas in positions where he’ll win everytime. Henry throws a nice ball, and he put on some size too which is only going to help him if he takes any shots cause they like to roll him out during games. They have the athletes on offense and Hale is a monster. I know they have Henry at QB, but I’d be giving the rock to Hale as much as I could.
Newark has 2-3 receivers that towers over anyone that lines up against them, and they possess nice hands as well. I didn’t see many drop passes from any of them. They rotated their QBs as well and both had a good handle on their plays, where the receivers would be, throwing them open instead of throwing AT them. I was under the impression that Newark didn’t have anything formidable this year but I’m seeing otherwise.
I still don’t know much about Lake Forest, I thought they were mostly a running team but they seem to be throwing the ball really well against Elkton and Hodgson these last few weeks. I would be worried about them if I played in the henlopen South.
Overall - As much as I thought Hodgson was the better team, I give Middletown the nod last night. Came back and beat Hodgson 21-13 and held Newark from getting any points. After the first game against the Cavs it seems like Hodgson just didn’t have it against Lake, it’s only 7on7 so if you didn’t beat the team you set to beat just to go to another team and hang your head, letting it affect your next game, you should re-evaluate what 7on7 is for. Yeah, as a spectator it’s fun to gauge this and judge that, but it’s for you to work on things with your teammates against someone other than your teammates. The score doesn’t count! It’s meaningless. You would have thought differently when Moffet got his team together after the first game. In my Deion Sanders voice, C’MON MAN!
Any thoughts from the other games spread out? Someone said Dover and Sallies.
The standings before last night show that St. George’s, Sallies, and Hodgson were 4-0, while Middletown, Dover, Caravel, and Smyrna were 3-1. Is Sallies and St. George’s the only two remaining undefeateds?
