If Smyrna was looking for respect, I think they got it. Takes a lot character to get back in the game after being punched in the mouth and down 21-0. They have a pretty soft schedule rest of the way save Sussex Tech (which is suspect IMO given their 4th quarter escape from A.I duPont). The nice thing is that there may be a rematch in the future although I don't think the scoring will be anything like last night. You can learn a lot by actually playing an opponent vs film. I wish Smyrna had scheduled traditional opponent MT or even Penn but that will have to wait til Tourney time. I think the Smyrna coach now realizes that a good football team needs a good defense. There wasn't much of that last night, especially against a team known for "grinding it out".

I agree with you dovetail. It was an AWESOME game, but I'm not really sure how to take it. What does it tell us? Both teams can put up points, or both teams can have points put up on them? They both did an excellent job moving the ball and scoring, but they also had a ridiculous amount of points put up on them. 50 is a lot, but almost 80 is sickening!

I liked what I saw from Smyrna, but your teams like Penn, Middletown, Sallies, and even Concord are going to grind out games like that, and run it down your throat until you can prove to stop it. They need to adjust their defense to that type of skilled, big, and aggressive offenses they may see in the future. Sallies has a nice size line, and some key athletes, but these other teams Smyrna could face in the playoffs have more skill players to go along my with all of that.

2014:

WP beat MT by 28 and St. M by 28 & 24

MT beat ST by 30

Hodgson beat St. G by 25 and Laurel by 42

St. G beat Hodgson by 20

ST beat SC by 36

Turnovers were the difference in this game.... I am not gong to question Sallies D vs Smyrna's O because they just aren't built for that,,, Sallies D will be fine vs most teams.. Smyrna's D however is a problem vs DE tops teams... SALS, MT, Penn, Tech all run well but will they win the turn over battle and have a Reeder ?

This is interesting... I would love a Smyrna vs Sals rematch in the ship.. would Sals get 4 TO's though?

What about William Penn? I think Penn and Smyrna would be a great game. The speed of the William Penn defense vs the Smyrna O. Penn might score 100 though.

Amazing amount of points, but the reality is that Sallies still won by 3 touchdowns when all is said and done. If there was a rematch. As someone mentioned, who's going to stop reeder? The answer is...no one.

Smyrna got their respect last night, I'm sure they'd much rather have the win - and there's no let down because they host Dover in their first conference game next week and that Senators offense is nothing to sneeze at either.

Who is going to stop Henderson other than himself? Sals made the 3 picks but doubt that happens if round 2 happens... 77-76 someone.. lol

Sallies had enough D to win, Smyrna, won't stop anyone who has anything close to Sallies offense. Again, a rematch, Sallies is better coached, will make adjustments. Sallies would put 80 plus on them next time

I was joking. But let's break it down, they lost by 20. A lot of work to do. I'm not saying he's a bad coach, I'm saying he's not coach D.

Mt Pleasant has some players but coaching is questionable... 19-7 Concord

New name in Delaware... Sean Carroll. from Mt Pleasant... player! MT Pleasant beats Concord at Concords homecoming,,, 21 -19

I sat on the Smyrna side last night. Honestly, the game has left me speechless. Now, that is hard to believe.

1) Coach Judy is in his second year as head coach. Coach DiNardo is either at or near 3 decades. Judy obviously has an offensive scheme that with the right players is unreal. DiNardo now has 250 victories and his resume would be impressive if he quit now and joined the French Foreign Legion.

2) The Sals D was bumfuzzled. They took bad angles to ball carriers. They looked slow. They improved in the second half. The Smyrna D just couldn't stop off left tackle.

3) Maybe we should rejoice that we had the opportunity to see a unique contest. Dovetail's heading should be changed. Smyrna is ready for prime time.

4) The Smyrna crowd was phenomenal. They really didn't quit when even down 21-0.

5) Reeder looked like John Riggins last night.

6) Nolan Henderson was Jonny Manziel in his Freshmen yearn at Texas A & M. William Knight as a 10th grader has incredible potential. The spread gives him some running space that he wouldn't get in other schemes. Using him in the wildcat or whatever gives the Eagles another offensive dimension.

Enjoy this. Yes, the Defense rested last night but it sure has given us something to talk about.

Does Smyrna always use the onside kick or was it a function of not having a suitable kicker? It seemed to guarantee Sallies would start with great field position and I don't believe Smyrna recovered one of them.

How about the difference was turnovers? In any event if you divide this game into 3 segments.

1st: Slowskys 3 TDs - Smyrna none (couple of big turnovers) (21-0)
______
2nd: Smyrna 6 TDs - Slowskys 3 TDs (This run started when Smyrna stopped the Slowskys on the 1 yard line early in the 2nd Q.) (Smyrna up 36-35)
_____
3rd: Slowskys 5 TDs Smyrna 2 TDs (Slowskys have some stops) (Slowskys win 76-56)

Slowskys 11 TD's - Smyrna 8 TD's

Smyrna missed on 4 of their 8 2 point conversion attempts. The Sals kicked 10 of 11 extra points.

Upon reflection I can see Smyrna continuing to put up these kinds of points. I can't see the Slowskys doing this again. Then again....they did win by 20?

I can't make sense of this game.

Didn't want to do this but I'm left with no choice. I'm throwing the big yellow flag on Friday's game! I got Papal Interference for the home team by His Holiness . That's a 394 yard penalty. Repeat first down!

@you
I have a pic of the Pope and Coach Dinardo drinking some of Coach D's homemade wine..
Coach Judy better learn how to make wine!!
hahaha

This is so typical of depreps. Smyrna was very impressive is a legitimate contender to win a state championship.

Now....everybody has to explain why Sallies winning by 20 wasn't.

They only have 1 big back ? Give me a break. You were not at the game or you did not read the stats or you do not understand football.

They only won because of turnovers ? Give me another break. Turnovers are a part of the game and Sallies had players in position to make interceptions.

Now everyone continue and pretty soon you will convince yourselve's Sallies actually lost the game. They won. They really did.

Sals have a solid team with players like Cathers who has seems to have a big play when you least expect it.

Uh oh! The sleeping giant has been awakened. BT has a point. As punch drunk as I was at the end of the game I do remember the Big S won. Lucky I sit at the top of the stands. Those close to the field got wind burn.

Shout out to the officials. I don't remember even seeing them.

Are you nuts? No one said Sallies only won because of turnovers.. Of course turnovers are a part of the game and of course the D gets credit for causing them.. When you have a game where neither D can stop the other and one team is plus 4 on the turnover ratio then obviously that was the difference in the the game... A difference Sallies created. Turnover ratio is a real and understood fact in all levels of football... No one is saying Sallies would have lost if not for them just that is the big stat that get contributed to Win or Loss

RR..the answer to your question is YES.
And anyone who knows FB and can be objective has a right to state that turnovers contributed to the Win/Loss etc.

And I am on the record ranking the Sals as #1 preseason and predicting they will win it all. That said, next question is will we see a rematch? I believe Smyrna will run the table and be 9-1 so there is a very good chance they could meet again. And maybe the Eagles do not hurt themselves as they did Friday night? Maybe the Sals force the turnovers again? Maybe the Sals RB cannot match that ridiculous effort? Maybe the Eagles slow him down?

Lot of questions but if they meet again-who knows what happens. There are 2 things for certain....Sals won and Defenses need some serious work.
