PRINCETON, N.J. - The first Ivy League games of the season were on the slate last weekend with Harvard, Princeton and Cornell each recording wins at home.
The Big Red jumped out to a big lead and then held off a second-half charge to beat Yale, 11-9. Cornell led 10-5 at the break, but after Yale scored twice in 37 seconds, the lead had been cut to 10-8 with 4:14 left in the third. But freshman
Christian Knight had five saves in the fourth quarter to hold the Bulldogs at bay.
Princeton scored four unanswered goals to break open an 11-10 game and top Penn, 15-12.
Mike MacDonald had a goal and two assists in the 4-0 run. He finished the day with seven points (2g, 5a) - the most by an Ivy thus far this season.
Harvard broke open an 8-8 tie with a 5-0 third quarter to top Brown, 16-10. The Bears were held scoreless for a span of 20:14. Harvard's
Jake Gambitsky logged 11 saves on the night, including seven in the fourth quarter.
Cornell is one of two unbeatens remaining in the nation. Now at 6-0, the Big Red and Maryland are the only two perfect records remaining after Johns Hopkins lost to Syracuse last week.
This week, Cornell hits the road for two games, facing backyard rival Colgate on Tuesday before heading to Philadelphia to take on Penn on Saturday.
All four games on Saturday will be streamed live on
The Ivy League® Digital Network. In addition, Harvard's game at North Carolina will be picked up by ESPN3.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Princeton junior attack
Mike MacDonald (Georgetown, Ontario) earned Player of the Week honors with a career-high five assists as Princeton defeated Penn in the Ivy opener for both squads. MacDonald finished the day with seven points, the most by an Ivy thus far this season. He assisted on a pair of Tiger goals in the final 52 seconds of the third quarter after Penn had closed to within 11-10. Princeton went on to win the game, 15-12.
MacDonald now has at least one goal in 15 consecutive games and at least one points in 20 straight contests.

Cornell freshman goalkeeper
Christian Knight (Baltimore, Md.) is the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week after another outstanding performance. He also had a huge caused turnover with less than a minute to play as the Bulldogs were on the man-up, coming out of the cage to pick off a Yale pass.
