Smyrna at .500 and a 2 seed?
Me personally I think it’s a bullshit rule: all for each district winner gets automatically in. However they don’t deserve the top 1-2 seed. Smyrna at 5-5 don’t deserve seed 2 if you ask me. They deserve a seat at the table but that’s it. It’s time for that rule to change. Too much catering going if you ask me

They didn't. They had Hodgson (also 5-5), Smyrna , Central, SG. They beat a tough lake forest team. They probably didn't play other teams due to distance.
Cape had a cupcake schedule for 3A. They scheduled three 2A schools. Cape stopped scheduling out of district 3A teams to make the playoffs 2 years ago. The only 3A schools they beat are begging to go down to 2A.

Cape 5-5
Why is either team in?
Let's not have short term memory loss. Last year, a 4-6 Smyrna team lost in the 1st round on the last play of the game against #1 seed Salesianum. It was one of hell of a compelling game. The rest of the 3A tournament was anti climactic.

When you remove the Covid schedule, Cape hasn’t had a winning since 2016. Their first winning season was 2023 after they dropped The Sals, Woodbridge, and Delmar. Cape then picked up Delcastle, St. Mark’s, at the time a struggling and young Lake Forest teams. Then Cape schedule a HVT team that had consecutive losing records with a head coach who stepped down. Cape has to schedule Sussex, St. George’s, and Smyrna. Cape cannot hide during playoff time. No more Maurki to bail out the coaches.

This observation has been made before.... Football just isn't cape's sport. And who's to say that they weren't dropped by those schools because they weren't competitive? Sals, they're looking to play tougher competition. Woodbridge and Delmar may have been dropped because of scheduling conflicts. St. Mark's (they're in the 3A classification)bumping up probably messed up a few schedules. I see it all the time, in the BHC, when one or two teams jump from flight A to Flight B or vice versa.

Should go back to a 4 team playoff. Competition isn't nearly as stiff as it once was. There will be a bunch of 1st round blowouts and a risk of needless injury.
