I will start by saying I DONT think our point system is bad....it all comes down to scheduling, you can schedule cupcakes, make the playoffs and get smashed or have a tough schedule and battle all year and get bonus points and make playoffs either way if your team is good enough you will be in the playoffs and it will show this time of year. I would like to see D1 extend to 8 teams in the same format as D2 with no first round byes.

Now, with the semifinals this week I honestly would’ve like to see new matchups in both divisions this week...For example:

D1
Central vs Hodgson
Sallies vs Dover

D2
Delmar vs Friends
Woodbridge vs Tower Hill

These matchups would’ve been more interesting, thoughts???

I am pretty enthralled by the HVT v Sals matchup.. The other three been there done that this year lol 3 repeats of the conference championship games which can be entertaining particularly if the team that won the first go round loses the second.. Thats always fun :D That is what I am rooting for. Sal V HVT rooting for HVT only because I like those guys there (coaches) and they have all been real cool to lilBIB through the years he was playing and at Blue Gold.. Sals been there done that they can have next year

While I respect Sallies, I Went to school with Frank and for that reason only I’m pulling for HVT, #riderpride...both teams beat MT and both defenses are a little underrated. SC defense has rightly got all the praise but don’t underestimate either of these battle tested Defenses.

Hodgson has a chance to join a select group of programs to win both D1 and D2 football titles (Middletown, Seaford, Glasgow, Christiana and Dickinson) and the first step is getting by Sallies who clearly has the hot hand right now. I think athlete for athlete, Hodgson is better, but it'll be close.

Dover's taken care of business since getting blanked by Central, it'll help that they'll be at home this time. I picked Central to win in another thread, but it wouldn't surprise me if Dover won.

Hard to beat a team twice in the same season, especially Delmar. I like Woodbridge, but just barely. Same for Friends.

How about getting points for each opponent win. If you schedule cupcakes, most likely the cupcakes would not have as many wins and would be worth a less amount of points.

One of the problems is the cupcakes built in to the schedules with flight A, B , DSC.

I love that Hodgson coaching staff. Moffett, Collins, Kappel, and Pete Grandell among others. They are all top notch gentlemen.

Come on, Rider. You know that I will be rooting for the Sals but I have to pay props to those vo tech folks.

Also, I have to check that weather forecast. It looks like I will have to bundle up these old bones to root for those underdog Sals.

HVT beat MT in the cold and windy elements, maybe they learned something from that game, it obviously helped out the confidence a ton.

Sallies will definitely be hard to beat, they’ve played some talented teams this season. I don’t think the HVT athletes will be a huge factor. When it comes to team play Sallies special teams ie kicker( maybe the best in the state) maybe affected by the wind.

Should be a great game unfortunately I will be working.

Still riding the Moffett train but if the Sals win, I’ll be happy for Ches,BT & the newest clone Bumster.

Dover SC, one of top offenses against one of top Defenses in the state. Dovers def is slightly above average and SC offense is slightly above average, what a quandary, this is imo a toss up game with slight nod going to SC due to the earlier victory which might be neutralized by Dover’s home field advantage. Damn it’s a toss up !!! I’m stymied lol

The matchups would most assuredly make things more interesting. However, that would be like re-seeding the tournament based on who liked who best. That's kinda what the BCS is all about right now. There is a playoff, but no tournament. The great part about a tournament is that everyone has a chance. Let it play out, in the end the team that earns the trophy will be the champs

They’ve played in bad weather all season and I think they love it and they’ve kicked fine. The st marks game was one of the worst fields I’ve ever seen and they played awesome. (I know st marks is terrible but still they ran and passed the ball well)

Dovers defense is averaging about 13 points a game. I’d say that’s more than slightly above average. I love that SC defense with 4 points a game for this season. Dover struggles against SC. Not sure why but SC has had their number for years now. Defense wins championships but this isn’t a championship game so not so fast my friend. Dover is going to find a way to blow this open beat central. It will not be a blow out, however they will win by 14.

Every team deserves congratulations. Despite the bold predictions I don't think there is a game where the outcome is not in doubt. Ray Didinger even mentioned Delaware High School Football this afternoon.

Only lock this weekend is Notre Dame destroying USC. Other college winners-OSU, Clemson (only by 7), Maryland, OU easy, and of course that Crimson Tide team.

Yeah, while most of you know my predictions usually stink. There is no way that SC does not emerge with the win. Sorry SC, if I jinxed you it really isn't on me, it's on you.

Controlled...don't jinx the Irish. I am hoping that a disillusioned SoCal team has called it quits. My sense is that their coach is going to be canned. Maybe a victory over ND victory will save his butt.

A win will clinch the 3rd seed.

Don't worry Bummy, no way the Irish can lose.

Bummy has heard the "don't worry" before.

Don't worry: the Elsmere police would never run radar 3 days in a row. Result: ticket. 1974

Don't worry: I can't get pregnant at this time. Result: Bummalita. 1984

Don't worry: There is enough gas to get us to Claymont. Hello Bellefonte. 1994

I know this is the football board, but you guys reminded me of Rocky II after Rocky signs to fight Apollo in the Philly Spectrum. Mickey and Rocky are watching the film of the 1st fight with Apollo and after Rocky tells Mickey that he "can't" switch and become a right handed fighter, Mickey responds by saying "What's 'can't'? There ain't no 'can'ts'!"

Which reminds me of something that always bugged me about that (great) movie; the opening scene is factually inaccurate. If you know a little basic Philly geography, the ambulance that takes Rocky to the hospital after the fight is shown going north on 95 over the Girard Point Bridge (by the navy yard) as if they just left the airport. [You can tell its going north because the lower level of that bridge goes north and the upper level goes south].

The fight was at the Spectrum and the ambulance ends up in Center City, so you wouldn't have to take that bridge in either direction?? Simple detail they could have gotten right....

Nice piece of analysis.

Yesterday on WYSP, Ray Didinger talking about friday night HS football mentioned Sallies in Wilmington DE. Said they had been doing it for years.

Going on 20 years rooting for Dover. Feel like I know the Dover-SC matchup like the back of my hand. Even when Dover's speed and athleticism gets them a lead, here comes SC-
1st down run for a 1 yard gain.
2nd down run for -1yard gain.
3rd down run for a 3 yard gain.
Wait, what is this? Flag on the field. Encroachment on Dover.
3rd down do-over. 8 yard run. 1st and ten SC.
20 plays, 10 minutes of game play and 2 flags on Dover later, TD SC.

Maybe there are 2 things I really despise in this world; getting poked in the eye with a pointy stick, and watching SC battle to the championship game only to come up lame representing the Henlopen North against some north of the canal opponent.

Come Friday, hopeful I will be, that the Dover coach will figure out a way to put 14 young men in the box and stop me from running drunkedly and madly onto the field to try and stop that 13 yard SC run on 3rd down and 12.

No matter what happens on the field, I will freeze my ass off Friday night being most thankful that I do not have to listen to that SC announcer, who is allowed to talk smack over the public address system in Georgetown during the opponents' snap count.

How that is not an unsportsmanlike penalty, I have never understood.

Go Dover!

I have been following SC football for the most part of the last 30 years. There is a few things that you come to expect from SC football. They are going to have a variety of running backs that will run the ball down your throat. Sprinkle in a pass here and there and that is their game....This year has been a little different. Same strong running game but more passing not just sprinkled in but passing because they can move the ball in the air. And then there is the defense. The number of shutouts is impressive but the way Central is shutting teams out is amazing. It is by far not a bend but don't break style of play. These shutouts for the most part have been dominant, give up nothing types of performances. Central is a complete team.
Hopefully this year will be different and SC doesn't come up lame against an upstate team. Unlike Dover's last title appearance, when they came up lame against a team that is located well above the great water divide.
By the way, when the announcer gets in your head.....you have already lost.
GO SC

lol. Lots of homefield advantages , and hometown rituals. Part of what makes high school football great!!. The whining we all do when knowing we have to face it on given week confirms it. all in fun and loyalty, for the most part.

fun fact: SC announcer was a first team All State football player at SC in the '70"s. and is beloved by all in Sussex County. (except by visiting teams on Fri nights)

At least he provides some wit and humor and knowledge. Unlike those truly obnoxious cowbells and cheesy cannons.
